"Not a great place"
We booked garden view room. It was a small, old, dark and very depressing room overlooking carpark!! It was more like a old motel! Deffinately didn't have a hotel standard. We complained and we were able to get an upgrade ($30 a day) to garden delux view room which was much bigger and had nice balcony. It was in the main part of the resort. Overall, […] overpriced with a very poor customer service. In the middle of nowhere. Not a lot to do around. Car is a must and just to add to the list, the rental car agency they had on premises is ridiculously expensive! They wanted us to pay $189 per day!! We were VERY happy to leave this place after 3 days. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The unit we had was older and outdated. The air conditioner sounded like a jet taking off and was not very good. There was no "Do Not Disturb" sign and no way to keep maids from knocking on the door and trying to enter at 8am or the bug spray guys from trying to get in. Also no one informed us of the planned spray so we had to clean up and get everything […] away from the baseboards and all our things packaged up and ziplocked. The location was great, the restaurants were nice but by "Starwood" standards it was definitely sub par. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Oceanfront room was amazing! For the price in the area, it really can't be beat. We did the night tide-pool walk and morning yoga - both were great. There are many complimentary activities throughout the day. Plus, there's a great surf school on the lawn next door.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"The worst room we have ever seen!"
They put us across the street in the worst rooms I have ever seen in a Hotel! DIRTY, broken down furniture. We did stay one night because we had paid for the Luhia, Hotels.com refunded our money for the second night and found us a room elsewhere for less money and much nicer! Never again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We had a great time. excellent service, staff was super friendly. Water was a little rough, but it was Sept. and a little early on stormy season. I think all hotels should end this 'resort fee' , we did know about it up front but it makes no sense, unless it makes their name pop up in searches for different dollar amount. We had excellent drinks, pupus, […] and breakfast at pool bar. Had excellent drinks and poki at Rum Fire, but did not have dinner there, after reading reviews. Café has great sandwiches, pastries, but starbucks coffee is $4. there is a starbucks walking distance. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Excellent location right on Poipu Beach. Comfortable rooms and attentive service. Opt for an ocean view room, worth the price.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Very nice hotel"
This hotel was nice and made it feel like they actually weren't nickle and diming at every turn - a breath of fresh air in Hawaii. We were greeted nicely and almost everyone was helpful. We upgraded our room from a garden view to an ocean view and it was really nice. The reasons I can;t give it a higer review/rating are: 1. The shower/bathtub was old […] and dirty. In a room with high ceilings, a beautiful view, and was very expensive, I felt like this was a black mark. 2. There was no fitness center as advertised, but a few machines outside (rusted) in the main stairway. A gym is almost always the first thing I look for in a hotel, and this was disappointing. This will be better once their supposed fitness center opens. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Pleasant staff, great location, average rooms/food"
This hotel is situated on/at the end of Poipu beach. The staff here are wonderfully pleasant and helpful, many with lots of info on local hangouts, etc. Concierge staff are very helpful. The hotel itself is clean but a bit run-down, and the rooms are small (same as a similar hotel in New York), so make sure you don't plan to spend a lot of time in […] them. We stayed in a garden view room at the back of the property; the oceanview rooms may be larger. The food at RumFire was excellent (pricey, as are most meals on this island), food at Lava's is pricey and entirely not worth it. The crew at Lava do handle bringing food and drink straight to your chair around the oceanside pool, or in a cabana or bungalow. One challenge with their lovely pool setup: there are not quite enough chairs, and definitely not enough umbrellas, to go around. Their garden pool, which is away from the ocean, is a very quiet alternative if you don't want that lovely surf. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

""Ocean Front" a MUST at this property!"
Staff was VERY nice, all of them! Don't listen to any reviews that say differently. GET AN OCEAN VIEW ROOM! 2nd-4th floor. ---Rooms over "BEACH LAWN" are best. We watched the Mon. & Wed. Luau from our lanai, it was literally right below our room. Rm#2318-2325, 2218-2225, 2418-2425 are the BEST rooms! They are right by a small parking lot, never full. […] Right by pool, but NO POOL NOISE. You can take your morning snorkel & you family can watch you from the lanai.--- Loved the Saturday night movie on the Beach Lawn! They brought in a massive blow up movie screen & everyone watched from the pool lounge chairs....set up movie theatre style. Other rooms "Ocean Wing" in Bldg #1 overlook lava beach & are very desolate. Rooms overlooking pool seemed fine, but the noise from the pool might get to be a bit much. Our room was amazing, literally ON the beach. Do not book garden or ocean "view", older bldg. & it gets little attention......very different across the street. Loved "bento box" at Lava's (pool restaurant). We loved sleeping to the sound of the ocean. The early morning walks I would take on the "Plantation Garden" property & then watch the sun rise at the beach & have my coffee on a pool lounge chair overlooking the beach. The pool is literally AT the beach, we went from pool to beach & back again ALL DAY LONG! This property is very nice & lush. Definitely 4+ star. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

decent stay. got flashed in the hallway and there were no security cameras around to catch the culprit. the 50 dollar a day resort fee is not worth it. really slow internet for what you pay for. if you need internet, just use the free internet stations at the lobby or pay by the day.Genuine Expedia guest review
"The good, the bad, the ugly"
Our room was across the road from the main buildings. This is both good and bad. Good because it's nice and quiet; bad because you feel removed the the resort amenities. Our room contained a kng bed, two night stands, a dresser, desk, lg chair and ottoman. The desk had no chair and was next to the dresser at the foot of the bed, completely useless and […] a waste of space. The dresser had three drawers and also contained the fridge and coffee maker. Drawer space is definitely lacking, seems the coffee maker, ice bucket etc. could be on the useless desk and would allow space for more drawers. The sink and vanity were separate from the toilet and tub. The tub/toilet were in a tiny space. On the upside, the bed, pillows and linens were very comfy. The main portion of the resort sits right on Poipu Beach. Probably one of the best locations on the island. There is a definite undertow and I would not allow young children to play in the water without an adult close at hand. The pool by the beach is primarily for children and only about 4' at the deepest portion. Lots of lounge chairs, few umbrellas. This resort will find ways to suck up your extra cash. You can rent an umbrella for the day at $30, a cabana lounger on the beach for $50/day or a poolside "bungalow" $100/day. Snorkel gear $8/hr, inner tube $10. Keep in mind, in addition to your room rate, you'll also pay a $30/day resort fee and $10/day for valet. Sloooooooow WIFI. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
We had a wonderful time, the hotel is beautiful, location is great! We had an ocean view and upgraded to a suite which was well worth it! We got an amazing view!! We had an amazing time at the Sheraton with an amazing beach right in front of our room. I loved the beach & we would leave our balcony door open just so we could hear the waves. Some nights were loud because they would have the luau but it was a free amazing show! One of my most favorite hotel stays!Genuine Expedia guest review
Great location near ocean and Poipu Beach and shopping village. The food was overpriced and sometimes not fresh. The gym could use some more machines as they were often occupied. "Great location on Poipu Beach"
Our garden view room was comfortable for 2 people but a lot smaller than many hotel rooms of the same star rating. The beds are very comfy and the lanai was great for am coffee and pm happy hour. The resort fee is clearly stated but adds up fast at $30 per day, so take advantage of the activities that they offer. They were fun and informative, led by […] very qualified local experts. "Nice facility on the beach."
We stayed in the Deluxe Oceanfront Escape room. Our lanai view was somewhat blocked by an corner building next to ours. Most of the stay was wonderful with the exception of our room had a hygiene problem. I opened the drawer beside the bed to find all kinds of trash from a former guest. I just reached in to remove the trash and to wipe out the drawer. […] I found a glob of (lubricant) with "hair" in it. We called and nicely reported it. We were told the manager would contact us. But not a word from anyone. Our room was not cleaned on one day until around 5:30 pm after we called them. One of the staff at the coffee snack shop seemed angry and actually tossed stuff to us as if she was very put out. We were very kind and just assumed she was having a bad day. "Best Anniversary Vacation in Beautiful Kuaui, HI!"
My husband and I were visiting Kuaui for the first time. After talking to many of friends/family about how beautiful this island is, we decided to vacay here for 8 days. We did much research on hotels as well as read many reviews, we decided to go with the Sheraton Kuaui Resort. There are many reasons you cannot take for granted (such as the 360 degree […] scenic view from everywhere you stand or how friendly the locals are) when you visit this island but here is why it is critical you consider the Sheraton on your next vacation. Firstly, when you book your room, you must pay extra for the ocean view. You will be making a critical error if you don't take advantage of this opportunity. The view is BREATHTAKING! Secondly, the Sheraton is one of the few hotels on this side of the island that gives you direct beach access. The beach is seriously less than 5 mins. from any room and it's a sizable beach. Not all hotels have beach access and depending on where you stay, getting to the beach is not exactly easy. This hotel also has all the beach equipment you could possibly want to rent (snorkeling gear, scuba diving gear, boogie boards, surf boards, sunscreen, etc.). Also, don't fret about the resort fee either, just make sure to take advantage of it because there's plenty of ways to utilize this such as scuba diving lessons. We loved it here and a major reason why is because we chose the right hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Quality Hotel Close to the Beach"
Everything was great! The atmosphere, the other guests, the staff, the cleanliness, the view. All worth the price. You can spend a lot more on Kauai and get more luxury, but for the price and location - this place can't be beat. The only qualm we had on our honeymoon was the cleaning service was inconsistent. One day you would get free waters and some […] you wouldn't, some nights you would get turn down service and some you wouldn't, and most nights you would get fresh towels and some you wouldn't. These are pretty small things to be concerned about because in normal life we do fine without these luxuries, so I still give the place high marks. Also, I recommend upgrading your room to at least a partial ocean view because it's absolutely worth it for the sunsets. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good location but over- priced"
The location of this resort is great. It is right on a beautiful beach and the views from the restaurant are spectacular. This is the first, however, negative review on a hotel I've ever written. There is a $30.00 daily resort fee added onto the price of the room which I found unreasonable. As an adult, the only items I used for this fee was the parking […] and the fitness room. The fitness room had a view but only had one elliptical machine. For a crowded resort of this size, it was inadequate. The decor in my garden room was shabby; the furniture needed to be replaced and the room needed to be re-painted. The parking was not close to my room which, considering the fee, was irritating. In addition, one of the staff members accidentally told me to park in the "valet" lot (which still wasn't that close to my room but closer); when another staff person discovered I parked in the lot he was rude and patronizing. I did complain to management about this. Overall, the staff was inattentive. I did not feel that I was receiving the "resort" experience from them. During my stay, a large group/conference came to the resort and then service for the rest of the guests dwindled. The main restaurant was closed to other guests for a couple of days and the service in the smaller restaurant was so slow that twice, without complaining, I was given complimentary appetizers due to my long wait. I could tell that the staff was embarrassed about the situation. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"great location, everything else was manageable"
If you want ultimate luxury go to the North Shore, St. Regis , but be prepared to pay 4x's the rate at $1000./nite! Although not the top rated property on Kauai, its beach front location and proximity of pool to ocean make this a prime destination. Service providers all went the extra mile to make you feel taken care of.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The only bad thing about the hotel is the stone walksays. When people are rolling their suitcases, it is very noisy, especially in the morning. Clackety-clack, clackety-clack...Genuine Expedia guest review
This hotel is definitely overpriced for what it has to offer. The premises are un-impressive to say the least: old nasty bathrooms (pooling water in tub, yellowing porcelain, low tiny toilets, super cramped quarters), popcorn ceilings in the room, musty old furniture. In addition, the service was a drag too: fake-nice and unhelpful half the time. Check-in […] took 15 min+ of harassing data gathering after a LONG flight and drive to hotel, when it was clear I was not feeling well. The pool is super crowded with kids and obnoxious adults. We tried to get in on a few occasions: first we got told to get out because someone vomited in the pool (eeww!), then when we tried to move to the adjacent pool, we realized it was being hogged by 2 frat boys throwing a football around and making the pool unusable for anyone else trying to actually swim in the pool without being whacked with the football. The food on premises is terrible, and also overpriced! There is no use of what should be plentiful local ingredients: the papaya avocado salad came with meager sad slivers of each on top of a mountain of greens. The burger was the most basic, county-fair burger: cheapest bun, cheapest frozen patty, lettuce, onion, tomato at 5X the price. It did not come with any sides, but we did have to wait for 30 min for it come out. We ate food bought at Costco for the rest of the trip. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"This is not a 4 star hotel!!!"
This property needs a major face lift/remodel! The property feels old and is positioned as a 4 star hotel, it felt more like a 2 star even a motel. This is NOT a 4 star hotel by any stretch! The service was very slow. The rooms were super small and very dark, the beds were also really uncomfortable! And to top it off, the building we were staying in […] the maintenance workers were power washing the floors late in the afternoon for hours and then again at 8am for hours and hours the next day very load, extremely disruptive, and a major inconvenience and a nuisance. The noise was extremely disruptive especially when you come to relax in Hawaii. Our 4 day vacation at the Sheraton was cut to one day as we checked out early and moved to a much nicer cleaner relaxing hotel (The Westin in Princeville a true 4 star hotel). I found it hard to find anything good to say about this Sheraton Kauai property, very disappointing and the experience was extremely disruptive and costly to our vacation. "Great hotel, great staff, good location"
I can't complain one bit about our stay here while in Kauai. The location of the hotel itself, the amenities nearby, the staff, etc were all absolutely above par. Although many of the activities we did on the island were further north, it was nice to come back to this area and have a more relaxed stay. If I had any complaint, it is the daily resort […] fee of $30 that we were required to pay once we arrived. A small, but frustrating expense - especially if you're on a budget for the entire trip. Nice hotel, huge complex with about 7 or 8 buildings. More like condo for timeshare but smaller and without the kitchenette. Right next to Poipu beach. Restaurants onsite were nice but expensive. "Nice hotel, great beach and pool."
Clean, pleasant rooms but beds are somewhat soft. "Great views, friendly staff, excellent relaxation"
We stayed at the Sheraton for three nights after a 7 night stay on Oahu. It was our first time on the island of Kauai and loved the small island feel of our stay. The resort was not crowded at all, parking was ample and staff was very friendly. We received a welcome call from the concierge, Randi, who we later visited for maps, directions and advice […] for our short stay. She was excellent, her directions and recommendations were spot on! The umbrella's in the beach pool area are limited, so we ended up renting a cabana for a lot less than expected. We were pleasantly surprised as the cabanas come with a stocked cooler with water and juice, complimentary box of Kauai cookies, ceiling fan and flatscreen tv! We got all of this with a view of both the pool and ocean! The property has a second pool in the garden area. It's very secluded, but has a well kept garden, waterfall, but quiet and surprisingly vacant. There is no towel or bar service, but there was never more than two or three people in the pool area making for a serene and quiet oasis. We interacted with at least three different porters/valet guys. All of them were very friendly and also provided suggestions of things to do. The first night's valet is complimentary. That night, we were waiting for a valet to get our car, when another struck up a conversation. He recommended we go to Bubba's. He gave us a map on how to get there, boy was he right! Overall, we loved our stay and can't wait to return. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Toddler in tow"
We got a garden view which actually had a great view but in building 8, it was such a distance from the main hotel, the beach, and even parking. I had a toddler with me and am pregnant so I had called ahead to request that I be closer but neither that request or a crib were met at checkin, eventually we received a crib. The room interior was standard, […] less than we normally expect but less than we normally pay also. The beach is beautiful but not kid friendly. The sunset is lovely. Food at Lavas was overpriced for the quality- eat at Kalaheo Cafe if you have the choice (the ride is worth it). The pools were nice, valet staff gave my son bread to feed the fish which was thoughtful. Location is good and you could walk to shopping and many hotels nearby. For couples, or a trip on a budget I think I'd recommend this hotel, just not sure I'd stay at that particular place if I ever get to visit Kauai again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
We really enjoyed our stay and very glad we reserved an oceanfront room. Our original room overlooked the pool and beach but we were hoping for a room a little more secluded and just overlooking the ocean. The front desk staff was kind enough to move us to a perfect room for us on the second day. Thanks to Chris for being such a big help. Our room was […] very clean and comfortable and the view from our balcony was of palm trees and beautiful blue water. "Beautiful Hotel, Hidden Resort Fee, Rude Manager"
Our first complaint is the $30 resort fee that was not mentioned upfront on Expedia; you had to click a link titled "Hotel Rules and Regulations", so we were thrown off a bit when we were informed of the extra charge. Even with this charge, you have to pay for all beach materials except towels. What is included in the "resort fee" is typical of what […] most hotels offer just as part of your room charge - parking, internet, use of the building common areas, etc. We did try to take advantage of a yoga class and were left behind even though we waited for the instructor in the place we were told to wait. After speaking to the manager, we were offered a complimentary surfboard, of which we were never told how to acquire, and half off the resort fee, which was not taken off on our checkout papers. Upon checking out the receptionist had to make phone calls to take care of something the manager should have taken care of already. The service at Lava's during our first day was very bad. Our waitress forgot our drinks and was very slow to wait on us, even though we were one of three customers there. On a separate occasion, a different waitress was very rude to us when we arrived 5 minutes before the kitchen closed. "Do you want to order even though the kitchen is only open for 5 more minutes?" was her first question to us. We decided to leave. The gym is a joke. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Before we arrived we requested through concierge, Randi, an additional coffee maker and ceramic mugs for use in our room. Neither had been delivered. It was very disappointing after a 15 hour day of traveling. The king bed we had requested also was not available, though the desk did move us the following night. The water bottles in our room had been […] previously opened (seals were broken) and there was a long black hair in the shower.
