Firstly, I would like to commend the F&B staff which made my stay enjoyable! It got off to a rocky start initially with first calling the hotel which the hotel receptionist was rude, but apologized profusely after addressing her behavior and informing her that I was a former employee of a full-service Marriott and that I wanted to speak to the Manager […] (which he/or she never followed up on). But inspite of the incident, upon check in the person that I needed to speak with (Matt) about my special request was there at the front desk which he made a potentially bad situation into a good one. I really enjoyed this location which sits across from the marina so the view of the ocean is just gorgeous, especially from the rooftop bar. The rooms are what you'd expect from a Marriott, very comfortable and I have a back issues, so the mattress pressure point relief and contouring elements was a major bonus! Loved this hotel! The staff was friendly, the room was lovely, and the beds... oh the wonderful beds! Close to downtown and Folly Beach, which was our destination. "Not woth the money"
The room we were given is located next to an exit door to the third floor bar. The door opened repeatedly through the night accompanied by very loud patrons of the bar which made sleeping almost impossible. After a call was made to the front desk they promised to help quite the guest which only made them louder. "Nothing special for the price of a deluxe room"
Having paid an expensive amount for a one night stay, I expected a little more than just regular stay off of any interstate hotel. (at those stops you normally get at least a free breakfast.) The hotel is located well outside the historic district therefore not within walking distance. Everything was adequate except that the bathroom needed counter […] space and the fridge was not a bar fridge, therefore we did not even have bottled water in the room. This hotel was recently renovated; the appearance of the lobby promises a great stay but fell short of expectancies. The staff was pleasant enough because they were approachable but came across as more familiar that professional. A concierge was not available and the front desk staff performed double duties including valet service. The windows in the room had serious condensation that caused the entire carpet in the corner of the room to be wet and moldy. When I told the bellhop, he stated that it had been a problem. "Business hotel a mile from downtown"
This is a typical urban Marriott high-rise hotel. Be prepared to pay for amenities such as Internet access and morning coffee (in-lobby Starbucks counter at Starbucks prices plus). Staff were professional, always courteous, and helpful, as is typical at Marriott hotels. We had no trouble getting a late-checkout of 12:30 pm (regular checkout time, 11:00 […] am), on a 3-night stay. I was a bit miffed at the 4 pm check-in time, especially given that 11:00 am checkout. The hotel is set up to support a large conference/meeting space attached to it. We got the reservation through an Expedia special deal (hotel not named until you make the reservation) so the rate was lower than usual for this hotel, which helped. The swimming pool and courtyard were closed for renovation and will be until March 2013. Note that the hotel is a mile from "real downtown" Charleston. There are about 5-6 blocks of impoverished urban neighborhood to traverse if you walk it. On plus side, even on the weekend, the free Charleston trolley every 1/2 hour provided daytime and early evening access to downtown Charleston. But after 8 pm, plan on a taxi or personal vehicle to/from the hotel, unless you are up for a high-vigilance walk through those 5-6 blocks. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
