Rydges South Bank - South Brisbane

I enjoyed my stay. Everything was within walking distance and is Close to public transportation. However, the hotel was under renovation. The restraint was closed, could only order room service or small limited menu in bar area. There are plenty of restraints nearby but I found this inconvenient. I was also annoyed that WIFI was only available in the […] lobby. You can pay for internet in the room but they only have LAN connections. AS much as the hotel costs per night I would expect free internet/WIFI in the room. Read more

The bath room was weird. The wash basin is situated exactly 3 feet above the floor. You need to bend like crazy when you want to wash face/ shave or simply wash hands. The hairdryer is right next to the wash basin at the same height. If you have a hyperactive kid staying with you, God help the hotel and the city of Brisbane! If he plugs the hairdryer […] and dips in the water in the wash basin....the thought is scary. I really wonder how the city health and safety department cleared this one! Too noisey. Room on first floor above cafe and pool area. Music too loud. Suggest better sound proofing of glass sliding door. Checked out as too noisey to relax. Hotel was full. Apart from noise the room was comfotable this is reason for low score.

hotel is a 10 min walk from train station, very close to lots of good restaurants, and a stones throw from south bank parklands which is a nice walk in the evening. Cinema nearby. Very comfy beds and pillows, and a nice leisurely bath.

We found the balcony very dusty. An empty beer bottle left on the balcony floor, the bottle top near by. The outside bottom window and door frame was extremely dirty.We informed the reservation staff the evening of the 18th, the bottle wasn`t removed the next day and it was still there when we checked out on the 20th.

Wine was listed for a set price but we were charged $3 more per glass and there was no correction or apology from the barman, just a quick comment that he couldn't do anything as that's what the cash register said. Would not stay again. this is due when arriving it was valet parking and no mention of charge was stated, on checkout was astounded to find this cost $30, At reception on arrival this charge was not mentioned. Great location, but hotel did not advise reg. construction at front entrance. Scavefolding made it impossible to find hotel and also where to drop off the car as it is valet parking only. Rooms were not clean in particular bathroom and bed. Breakfast in the restaurant CBD was good value for money.

I choose this Hotel as it was within walking distance of the QPAC Theatre and the Natural History Museum ( aprox. 300 feet to the QPAC , the museum the next building down.) For location , this is the place to stay if you want easy access to get to these locations. However you are paying for the location over comfort. This is a no frills kind of place. […] The rooms are older , many have no view to write home about. While the queen size bed seems to be newer, if you should need another bed brought in , which we did, you might find a very outdated old spring mattress which is so sloped that it gives new meaning to the term , "rolling out of bed." We were thankful we brought our own water, and instant soup mixes so that we didn't need any of the extra cost items...however you will find a little steeper cost for parking then was advertised online. Check out hidden costs as you will definitely be surprised otherwise. If we did it over again , we would pay a lower cost and stay in a nicer room and take a taxi over. Read more

Rydges Southbank is a superbly located hotel for a night at QPAC - valet parking for the car (at $30 a night) compared to $15 for a park underneath QPAC doesn't seem too bad, and the staff are extremely friendly. Our only complaint would be cost of internet access, which we found to be somewhat higher than any other place we stayed on our vacation, including other Rydges where it was included in the room rate. Also, wireless is only available in lobby locations....

The Rydges South Bank is situated in a great location with many cafe's and eating places nearby. It is only a short walk to the South Brisbane train station where you can get a Airtrain to and from both the domestic and international airports. It is also the best location for attending conferences at the nearby Convention Centre and is close to the […] cultural area of Brisbane. The only downside to our stay was that our room did not have a balcony or a window that would open as we faced the back of the hotel. However we did get a free firework display with the best view of it from our room on two nights of our stayed there (bonus). Over the service, staff and food there was good and they also sell Airtrain tickets at the reception desk at a reduced rate $13.50 instead of $15.00 as at the station. However the internet costs could be cheaper than the $5.00 for a 1/2 hour. Read more
