"Excellent Alternative"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 23, 2013
The Brugmann Garden provided an excellent change of pace to our hectic travel schedule. The house was lovely and our room was very comfortable for the four of us. The atmosphere wasquietly elegant and relaxed. Great breakfast.

Great location. Close to everything including the beautiful Grand Place, restaurants, shops, sight-seeing.
"Great!"
We stayed there for 3 days while in Brussels - very close to all the historic sites and public transportation. The room was clean, the staff was very friendly, spoke excellent english, and the breakfast was delicious. Would definitely stay there again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"The best in Brussels"
We arrived in Belgium early that morning, after an overnight flight. We got to the hotel by 11am. We thought we would have to check our bags, and wait till later to get a room. No such thing. They were GREAT. Beautiful room with a giant king bed. They were unbelievably gracious. Immaculate room and bathroom. Free beer, soda, and water in mini bar. Friendly […] staff. Everyone spoke English, or bent over backward to try. Buffet breakfast were incredible. My wife and I ate twice a day. Breakfast and then dinner. OK so we snuck in fresh Belgium waffles with chocolate sauce a few times. Great location. Great café on site. If you’re going to Belgium and want to stay in Brussels there is NO other hotel to consider. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Gorgeous!!"
The Metropole Hotel is gorgeous and very clean. It definitely has that "old-world" Europe feel to it. Our room was beautiful and very comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It's in a perfect location too as it is right in the city centre. We were able to walk to great bars and restaurants right in the neighborhood. I will definitely be […] staying at the Metropole the next time I'm in Brussels. I highly recommend that you stay here! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"great find for 4 night stay!"
Pros: magnificent, grand and beautifully appointed turn of the century(20th) hotel. accessible location with metro stop right outside the front door. 3 of us traveling together found discounted rate on Hotels dot com. Both of our rooms were very large(unusual for many European hotels). Sumptuous breakfast buffet with great coffee! Beer, coke and water […] provided daily---gratis--- in the in-room mini-bar(another surprise). Spacious bathroom with tub for 2! Cons: no mirror provided in bedroom or sitting area; bed location in rm 156 is adjacent to fitness center and sound of weights dropping started at 6am. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Size of rooms"
I stayed in three different rooms. The first was minuscule and one could barely open one's suitcase. It was also extremely hot all the time. The second was a little larger but with no view. The third room was a real room, very spacious and with a view of the street. Good location, within 10 minutes of Grand Place and one could walk to the major museums. Great […] breakfast and great public spaces Highly recommended. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Metropole Hotel in Brussels - Great Bar"
This was my 3rd stay and I love this hotel. The bar / cafe is reason enough to stay. The Metropole's late 19th century design is becoming increasingly rare in our modern world, the hotel is great place to take a break from the 21st century. If you know Milwaukee's Pfister Hotel or the Drake in Chicago you have sense of Metropole Brussels! The location […] is perfect for tourist, the subway stop is right in front, a major shopping street is behind the hotel, and the Grand Place is a couple blocks away. My only negative was the Concierge staff , they provided either no help or bad information. I was most surprised about their lack of initiative Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Lovely, historic building"
We arrived hours before the published checkin time and they quickly moved us into our room. It was large and comfortable. The only negative was the lighting. While the room had 5 lamps, the bulbs were all of such low voltage that we would not have been able to read if we had wanted to. All of the concierges were knowledgeable and pleasant as were the […] front desk staff. Our room was very quiet and we were delighted with how close we were to everything. The doormen were charming and full of tourist advice. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great hotel in Brussels."
This hotel is in a great neighborhood, close to the Grand Place. Beautiful old hotel, decorated for Christmas during our stay. The lobby and dining rooms are beautiful, high ceilings, very grand. Great cafe out front that we sat at for our morning coffee and our after dinner cocktail. Great people watching. Our rooms were large and comfortable. We would […] stay here again. "Perfect hotel for weekend in Brussels"
We were in brussels for only 3 days and it is a beautiful hotel, walking distance to any sight in the city. The room was gorgeous. Only minor thing was that the hairdryer didn't work, but that was quickly fixed by bringing us a new one.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Grand Dame needs a bit of retouch"
Metropole Hotel offers luxurious amenities and is centrally-located: Central and Midi stations which we used are within walking distance, as are most of the city sights and shopping. Service is warm, efficient, and prompt. Hotel breakfast is sumptuous (really fills you for the full day of sight-seeing!), with a server constantly wanting to refill your […] coffee cup without being prompted. The room is large and appointed well; same with the bathroom. However, the Grand Dame is showing her age, with visible flaws such as rotting portions of the bathroom door casing, musty-smelling/looking carpet, outdated projection-type TV (with very limited channel selections), period bath faucets that are "stuck" and require a lot of effort to operate. In early October, the heating system was firing away and moderating it took a lot of effort. We were told that a top-down renovation is underway and has not reached the lower floors (where we were staying). However, our terrace was being used as a "dumping" place for plywood and other materials that we preferred to draw the curtains close to not see these unsightly stuff. But we'll take the warts with the good and we'll gladly stay again if we go back to Brussels. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"A week in Brussels at the Metropole"
The hotel is within walking distance of the Grand Place and many other tourist venues. The lobby is amazing. The style and painting are excelent. Brunch was included with our expedia rate. Altough the food was different than I am used to at home, it was good and there was a wide selection. The service at the brunch was excelent with my coffee cup being […] filled regularly. The hotel does not have a business center where I could check in online for my flight home. To offset this the staff allowed me to use one of their computers and printer to print the boarding passes. The included wifi worked well for my smart phone and laptop. Our room was very clean and well laid out. The furnishings were older and the room could use a decorating update. The decorations did not look anything like the pictures on their web site. We can only assume we got a room that had not been redecorated in 20 or 30 years. The only maintenance complaint was the drains on the sinks did not work properly. Overall we had a good stay. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great place to have a drink, but overpriced and check room before accepting it."
I only stayed at the Metropole for one night, so perhaps that's why they put me in a room on the first floor facing a brick wall (#1018). Okay, I guess someone has to stay in that room, and it was only one night. But as dinner time neared, a definite cooking smell wafted into my room. Then at the crack of dawn, people started dragging noisy carts up […] and down the alley below, making it impossible to sleep. I would have communicated this to the hotel if they had asked, but they didn't. Gorgeous and grand public rooms, but an overall stuffy, corporate vibe. Definitely overpriced for what I received. "Lovely Hotel"
The hotel is very nice. The location within 10 minutes of the Grand Place is excellent. The only warning is regarding the Metropole Cafe. It is located in the front of the hotel and has outside seating. The food is below average. The waiter stated that the cafe rents space from the hotel and is not a part of Metropole. "Excellent stay"
We were in beautifully renovated rooms with heated towel bars and a flat screen tv. Fabulous breakfast buffet. Great location and beautiful lobby. Only wish people at outdoor cafe didn't smoke so much, but that's typical in Belgium.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good hotel"
Nice hotel, location was good. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Only complaint was the shower was uncomfortable and obviously added to the tub afterwards - had to really arch your back or bend over to get under the shower head. Looby is cool, breakfast was nice. My wife and I don't usually stay at hotels as nice as this one, but the deal we got made it very affordable. "Metropole - Great Location & Breakfast, Some Issue"
August 2011, no business center although listings said there was one (upgrading). Room given was too hot; ac not working; asked for and received switch. Apparently a range of room qualities. Second room was excellent. Breakfast was superb - highly recommended. Location excellent. Clean and very picturesque lobby.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Hotel Metropole-fine for a drink to take in the history, however the bathroom smelled moldy and there was little hot water. Neighborhood did not feel safe at night. This is far from a 5 star hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Metropole Hotel in Brussels"
The hotel was beautiful and staff were excellent, as was the location. The staff were extremely friendly and accomodating and assisted in us in all of our needs. The only problem was the smell of the room that we were in for three days. We ended up buying air freshener because it smelled of body odor and was very unpleasant. We opened the balcony doors […] though and managed to make it much better. I loved the hotel, location, and the size was GREAT! It was very large for a hotel in Europe. "NOT a 5 Star Hotel"
Old poorly maintained hotel. Elevators and plumbing are an issue. Maids party in your rooms while you are away. The front desk is less than helpful. With so many hotels arround why pick this one? Dont trust pictures go elsewhere.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Prime Location"
This Hotel was in a great location. We ended up taking the bus from the train station when we arrived and it was so close (two stops) that the bus driver told us not to worry about paying. It was so easy to get everywhere from our hotel. We didn't take transportation again until we were leaving and the hotel recommended that we take the train to the […] airport. I always appreciate it when a hotel (especially this nice) recommends public transportation over a taxi. Every time we left the hotel we stopped at the concierge desk for help and they were extremely helpful every single time. We went to three countries on our trip and travel regularly. This was one of our best hotel experiences ever. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"The good and bad"
The hotel lobby is quite nice and the location is excellent. The service was extremely variable. Here were my specific issues. 1) Ordered King bed with my reservation and placed in non-King room but not told that. When i inquired they said they did not have anymore rooms. 2) Three of lights were burned out making myself and crew originally believe there […] was an electrical problem and it took them 30 or 40 minutes to figure out and bring replacement bulbs. 3) No shampoo l or do not disturb sign was left in the room-- I had to ask the next day. The cleaning crew did not knock they just entered the room and assumed I was not there. I was standing close to the door at the time so it was not due to lack of hearing a knock. It happened twice. 4) Concierge service was variable. One told me to come in the morning and I could get my train ticket booked by them. The next morning the concierge (female) did not want to be bothered and told me it would cost more but not sure how much and i should just go to train station. So i went-- selected train had just sold out and found out did not cost more to book via hotel. 5) The walls are thin and could easily hear my neighbors television at night. The internet service was free and sometimes slow but compared to other European hotels, the service was pretty good. The ambiance and location were great! I would be on the fence about recommending the hotel. I might have just had some bad luck with the room. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Hotel Metropole in Brussels"
We stayed at the Hotel Metropole in Brussels for 4 nights and had a wonderful time. The hotel is beautiful--the Art Nouveau decor is astounding. The hotel in itself is a tourist destination mentioned in many guidebooks of Brussels. The rooms are beautiful as well. My only complaint about the room is that there was some minor disrepair in the bathroom […] and no view to speak of--we were overlooking a wall. Which wasn't too terrible because we were really only in the room to sleep. The free mini-bar including Belgian beers was an added bonus as well as free wireless. Location is great, just a short walk from the major sights in Brussels. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

The Metropole is a lovely old hotel maintained beautifully. The location is super and very close to the Grand Place and many, many restaurants. "Metropole Hotel, Brussels"
Metropole Hotel is one of the grand hotels in Brussels. However, I would rate it 4.5 Stars due to the run down conditions of our room, given it's 5 star rating. Location is very good, close to the Grand Place and other attractions. Staff is uneven, some are excellent, yet 2 or 3 we met were polite but unenthusiastic or helpful. Overall, I am glad I […] stayed at this hotel, a hotel with an international reputation. However, it does not compare to other similar hotels such as the grand old hotel of Willard in Washington DC. "Beautiful hotel"
Stayed here for 2 nights in May, 2011. Very conveniently located. Gorgeous lobby. "Faded grandeur"
Nothing special here - while the hotel is well-located and the public spaces (lobby, bar, etc.) are beautiful, the rooms are in dire need of renovation. I promptly requested a room change when my first room (a "superior" with a small balcony overlooking the city) had a cigarette burn in the comforter and extremely dated decor. The second room wasn't […] much better and had a slightly musty odor and needed to be repainted and otherwise refreshed. Service was at a baseline - nothing special but not terrible. The hotel was at least well-located but I definitely prefer the Stanhope, which is a bit further from the city center but is much closer to a true 5-star property. "one of the hotels in the center of action"
The hotel is 5-star, so the staff assumes you're rich and advises you expensive restaurants. I saw other hotels in more intimate locations. This hotel overlooks major intersection and is steps away from a casino, so besides attracting tourists it also attracts the bums. The hotel staff takes protective care of their guests, though, so it's totally safe […] and homely. The staff is very helpful and friendly. Free internet, just take your outlet converter. Rooms are bigger than your typical European hotel. Too bad the hotel does not have free shuttle pick up from and to the airport. Practice your French before your visit to Brussels. "Needs renovation :/"
The public spaces are avery nice but it needs rennovation. From the old style neon sign outside with semi faded latters to the turnaround door which must be 30+ years old to the furniture of the rooms, the very large environment are dumly lit but you can see dust on the lamps, etc. Might have been a grand hotel but now its an OK place to stay but that's […] it. Matter of fact it might be slightely embarassng if you want to bring someone to impress. It wont be that impressive. Definitely not a 5* !!!!! not anymore. Staff was very nice though.
