"Perfectly Quaint Little 4 Star (not 2) Motel"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 25, 2013
The room was small but extraordinarily well accessorized. The staff was very congenial and pleasant. It is a beautiful neighborhood. The room was immaculately clean and well maintained. It is an older facility but the owners have excelled at remodeling and making the most out of the existing structure. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. That will be our first choice of motels if we ever return for another visit to Santa Barbara.

Just want to say thanks to Expedia. Found myself in a bad place and Expedia stepped up and put me in an incredible place within 45 mins. Incredible. And thanks to Walter who helped us. "Not Hyeatt's Best Effort"
The staff were great. Friendly, helpful and responsive. The property itself needs help. The wireless was cumbersome, the hallways looked tired and had an oder, while not unpleasant it definately was not good. The room was stuffy and only improved with the airconditioner on, but it was very noisy and I could not leave it on while sleeping. In the AM […] loud noise emminated throughout the hallway as it seems they decided to clean the carpets in several rooms in my building. Very loud, diffi ult to manouver around as the machines (multiple) were in the hallway. I think they should have not sold rooms on that floor as at least 4 were being cleaned...Staff great, property location, wonderful, property itself, not so much. "Really Disappointed"
Website shows rooms with comfortable easy chairs. Ours had one hard chair. Had to bring in patio chair. Frig was too tiny. No central air. One loud wall AC unit. Charge for parking in lot and charge for internet was ridiculous. Most hotels furnish. Also no free breakfast. Restaurant was too expensive. Most disappointing for amount we paid. Will not […] go there again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great hotel on east beach, block from SB Zoo"
The stay here was great & the staff was very friendly, prompt with service and extremely helpful. Although on the quieter end of the beachfront(east beach), it was conveniently located a block from the Zoo and across from the beach. You won’t find many restaurants or coffee shops near, but that may be a plus for some. The hotel does offer a restaurant, […] however, we never stopped in so can't say much about it. If you feel like venturing out, there is a Trader Joe's located just north on Milpas St (about 1/2 mile) just past the 101. Anyhow, the double-queen room was very spacious and included many amenities like a fridge & personal safe. The heated pool also had a happy hour between 5-7p. For those cool Santa Barbara nights, warm up next to the large fire pit that sits pool side. There was ample street parking behind the hotel, but if you’d rather not gamble, the hotel offers self and valet parking for a fee. When venturing into downtown, we chose to leave the car behind and instead took advantage of the downtown electric shuttle that conveniently had a stop in front of the hotel. It's only 50 cents each way and takes you to the wharf and far business ends of State Street. You can also opt for the bikes that are rented out from the reception area. On our final morning, we chose room service to give our kids the experience. The food was not only delivered early, but piping hot, by a nice and courteous waiter. Overall, we'll definitely choose this hotel when in the area again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good Hotel with excellent location"
The location is the best thing about this hotel being across the street from the beach. Because of the various sections of the property, it does have a kind of a motel feel. The rooms are decent size and beds are comfortable, but they are overpriced for what they are. The sinks smelled like a toilet because of some in the drain holes that maintenance […] attempted to clean by pouring orange scented cleaner into them. It toned it down some but you could smell it anytime you used the sinks. There isn't any restuarants is close walking distance, but there are plenty of places about a mile or so away on State Street. My major complain was that the front desk was NO help in arranging a conference room for me on the weekend. I had arranged a meeting with some important business clients and needed the room and I was told the person in charge of that wasn't available on the weekend. I told her well, the room was not booked and just charge me the rate and I'll pay it . This woman refused to make a decision and said I would have to wait until Monday. You just lost a customer because of the indifference of the front desk staff who are the face of any Hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"overpriced for what it is"
3 Star Prices for 2 Star accommodations (at least during peak season) . It's basically a motel with a main building and several free standing buildings on 2 lots. Although recently renovated, the layout of the place is funky. The rooms are new and clean but nothing special, at least for the standard Queen room. We asked for a quiet room in the main […] hotel but when we arrived non were available and they tried putting us in a room across the street in a satellite building. After making a big fuss they were able to "locate" a suitable room on the main property. Service was quite good with a responsive and friendly staff. But boy do they nickle and dime you by charging extra for parking and wifi service. Every half star motel provides free wifi these days, and if I'm paying 3 star prices for 2 star accommodations, I at least expect free wifi! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Clean & close to beach/State Street"
Front desk, valet & bell staff were great. Asked for end room and they were able to accomadate. Room and bathroom were relatively small with kind of an odd layout due to older property which had been kept up well. $20 overnight valet parking, $15 to self park was annoying as were the lack of normal cable-news channels (CNBC/CNN would have been nice). […] Proxemity to beach was great. Room service and housekeeping (more towels) were quick. Overall good value for hotel in the Santa Barbara area but a bit different than typical Hyatt experience. I would stay here again but would like to see a more aggressive price point for what you get. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

No complaints about the hotel. The toilet broke in the middle of the night, someone showed up within 5 minutes, checked the problem, and 15 minutes later, our things and ourselves were in another room. "Keep the smokers out of the non smoking rooms"
on arrival no room was ready and they said they would call us. They never called and we had to go back to get our room 90 minutes after normal check in time. non-smoking room we got had been smoked in and we had to change rooms. They were nice about changing the rooms, we finally ended up in a room that was not smelling of smoke.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Hyatt-ly disappointed"
Upon arrival, the valet and bellman were right on it and cheerful. Good first impression but it was all downhill after that. First check-in, they gave me the wrong room, 2 queens instead of a king ocean view. I was told to come back later. An hour and a half later, I came back only to be told come back after four. To the new desk clerk's credit, she […] decided to take my number so she could call me when the room was ready, which she did. It should also be noted that another guest that checked in just before me, was back at the desk when I returned. She told me it was her second time back due to the first room switch being unacceptable. That should have been a clue. Upon my return at four, I went to my newly assigned room. It was not only unimpressive, but it should have been listed as partial ocean view, unless you call going out on the balcony and looking due south an, "Ocean View." The closet and bathroom were small. For some reason, the HDTV reception was grainy and channels listed on the guide were not all accessible. I won't even start on the construction and related noise going on in the hallway. Why would a hotel even book rooms in that area? If your there for events in the hotel, the main building is most convenient. If you prefer to the gym workout, you may want to choose the building north of the lobby. This hotel was not only a bit different than advertised, but also not what one would expect from a Hyatt! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Extremely Late Check-in"
While the room was very nice, the service at check-in was a distaster. Having spent all day in Santa Barbara with my two young children, we were looking forward to a smooth and fast check-in and a late afternoon at the pool relaxing. Check-in time is 4:00 PM at this hotel, and even at 4:00, our room was not ready. We were allowed to sit at the pool […] while we waited for our room, and I was told I would be contacted as soon as it was available. At 4:30PM, I decided to call the front desk. After being on hold for over 5 minutes, I was informed that my room was indeed ready. I then had to wait in line again, with all of the new arrivals for a second time. It was an unfortunate snag in an other wise good overnight trip. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Disappointing stay"
The room was worn looking (especially the carpet) and smelled musty. We were on the third floor and were not told when we checked in that the elevator from the second to the third floor was out of service, so we had to haul a fairly heavy suitcase up the stairs. The hotel overall looked outdated and in need of some upgrades.Genuine Expedia guest review

"very nice hotel but over priced"
This Hyatt is nice but a little over priced. I had to check in to a competing hotel the next night which was actually cheaper but better value. The Hyatt price didnt include wifi or parking and not even wi-fi in lobby (complementary). In this day and age I think that is a joke. The Hotel was nice and staff very friendly.
