"nice affordable place in montreal"
Provides basic, clean room at a good price near downtown Montreal. The staff is friendly and helpful. A continental breakfast is served every morning. Overall, a good experience.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel was fine for what we went for. We were there to view Mcgill Univ. It was good for us, because fit is an actual Univ dorm, so we got to see what a dorm looks like. As a hotel ( and even dorm) it needs updating. It is very much in need of repairs, upgrades etc. That said. We were there one night and it was fine for us. Great location!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
VERY GOOD. I WILL STAY IN THIS PLACE AGAIN.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
You need to understand that this is a residence hall not a luxury hotel. Given that, everything was great! Worth giving up a little bit in the way of lux for such a perfect location and reasonable rate.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Beds are comfortable. Bathroom was clean. Location was ideal. Nearby hotels 3 times the price. Hallways appeared rundown tho. Croissants at breakfast were awesome.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Value for money"
It's true, the breakfast leaves to be desired, but even if you decide to eat elsewhere you still get value for your money. Not luxurious, but it has all the comfort you need.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
On the website, it doesn't say that this is mc gill doom. This is not a hotel. It is a university doom, open for rent for summer, there are still kids using it. The breakfast was so old and nasty. I feel for the university kids who are eating it on a daily.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The desk staff were friendly and polite. Room was more spacious than expected, beds comfortable. Nice to have a fridge but would have liked coffee facilities, but it was not very important. Enjoyed my stay even though it was just for one night. Would certainly stay here again and would also recommend the new residence hall to family and friends.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Overall okay experience"
Hotel was good but the rooms were a lot smaller then originally thought. The service was okay but the maids never gave us more towels or TP. Had to go to the front desk to ask for more.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Excellent hotel - for the price you don't expect perfection, but it was clean, comfortable, quiet, and the staff were very pleasant and helpful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel.com messed up the booking; wrong type room & no parking (paid parking only). Hotel is well located & the staffs are helpful. New Residence Hall is actually a student residence turned into a hotel in the summer. The rooms are fairly well maintained, but the continental breakfast needs work. Not much left after the students get the first run at […] it. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
It took them half an hour to find our reservation. Our room's door handle came off.We asked for late checkout;they confirmed but they probably didn't write it down because they they called us up during regular checkout time and asked us to leave.

"Good Location for the Price"
08/22/14 TigerLilly813 Toronto, Canada
This place is a residence during the school year and a hotel during the summer. The main reason I stayed here is it's a fairly good deal considering the price and location. It's walking distance to a lot of the places I wanted to go (ex. Schwartz's, Mont Royal), about a 20 mins walk to Old Montreal, there are a lot of restaurants nearby and close to some night life action too. It's close to 2 major streets, St. Laurent and St. Denis, so there are a lot of things near here. If you want a nicer hotel in this area, you will have to pay for it. The room was fairly large, clean and came with a small fridge. That's pretty much all I need so I was happy with it. The furniture, like the wardrobe and floor, was worn out. The carpet was kinda ratty and stained a little which is really the biggest complaint I have. Bathroom was ok. Everything worked but I didn't like the toilet paper. It was pretty much the same type of toilet paper they often have in malls - thin and rough. They could spend a bit more on better toilet paper in my opinion. There's also no alarm clock, so be sure to bring something that keeps the time for you. There's also free wifi and it works well. A lot of people had issues with the breakfast but I actually thought it was pretty good. It's advertised as a "continental breakfast" not a "hot breakfast" so I just expected bagels and muffins. They had, to my surprise, apples, bananas, croissants, cinnamon rolls (the baked goods seemed store bought to me), oatmeal, hard boiled eggs, toast, bagels and yogurt. For a "continental breakfast" at a lower star hotel I thought it was really good! The staff also seemed alright to me. They weren't overly friendly or went out of their way to help us or anything like that but they weren't overly rude either. My guess is it's staffed by university students so they probably don't really care about customer service. Overall, even though the room was "ok" and "nothing spectacular", I've stayed in worse places. I think it is over priced a little for what you get but hotels are expensive in this area. Considering the price and location, it was fairly clean and I liked the breakfast. I would consider staying here again depending on my budget.
"Terrible staff service."

Worst travel experience with my family in Montreal. When we checked in the hotel around 4:30 the afternoon, we noticed the bathroom light had trouble working, so we requested someone to fix it. Then, we left for dinner, as we returning around 11 we were expecting the light being fixed already. But, NO! So we asked why is there no one fixing the light. They said because the guy who supposed to fix it had left already. Later, we had to move to three other broken rooms that were given to us. We didn't not accept that offer, so we decided to leave at 12 midnight. (we didn't not stay in that hotel at all) We were told to come back tomorrow morning to get our refund back as no one is suppose to authorized the refund at that time. So, we have to find another hotel to stay. Next day, we returned to the hotel, we asked the staff to refund the money that we already paid for the unsatisfied room. They refused and gave us a very bad attitude. They were unfriendly. Especially, Staff and Manger is not well trained, they cannot provide any help to you. Do not recommend this hotel to others. Worst time ever staying in hotel!!!
"Functional accommodation in central Montréal"
08/09/14 Sondra K Berlin, Germany
The hotel is located only a few minutes walk away from the Metro station "Place des arts" in a skyscraper with 16 floors. The rooms are very spacious and provided two double beds. Even though the hotel is located next to a main street we hardly heard any traffic noise in our room in the 14th floor. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Bathroom and the room itself were clean, though the carpet and the bath were a bit worn off. Breakfast was served as buffet and was very rich, but contained lots of sweet cakes and little decent food. Laundry facilities are available. The rooms have airconditionning and the windows cannot be opened. All in all, the place is good value for money and can be recommended if you are looking for functional accommodation.
"Worst experience ever"

I had the worst experience ever living in McGill University New Residence Hall. Today when I went back to the hotel at 11:10 pm, I was told that the power went off in the whole downtown area and the elevator could not be used. I asked the front desk if there is anything they could do since I am on the sixteen floor. They told me that there was nothing they could do and they do not know who long it was going to take for the power to come back. Then I waited in the lobby for 10 min and finally decided to climb up to my room. When I reached the 16th floor, the safe guard in the hotel accompanied several other guests arriving on the 16th floor by using the service elevator!!! I asked that why I was asking the front dest and waiting in the lobby for 10 min but no one never ever told me that I could use the service elevator!!! The safe guard man told me that he was new and all front desk people (three of them) were new that they did not know the guests could use the service elevator when power went off. There is only one person in the hotel know about the service elevator. BUT why did not they contact the person or the person let them know?!!! It is totally ridiculous! I still remembered the first day (Aug 4th afternoon) when I arrived the hotel at 6:00 pm and I was told that the room I reserved was not available. I had to wait for half an hour so they could do the room service. It is 6:00 pm in the afternoon! I would not mind it so much if the power off thing did not happen. But now these two things added together made me feel very very very unpleasant. In addition, the continental breakfast here was very bad, only cheep sweet bread, coffee and water boiled egg. The hotel is not clean either. I wish these kind of things will never happen to other guests.
"Great spot ! However I cannot get anyone to go get the Ipod I left in the room the night before,"
08/04/14 Corywolfveino Halifax Regional Municipality, Canada
Stayed here over the weekend everything was great other then getting hassled by security every time we arrived, We understood though as it was the weekend of Osheaga so there was plenty of partiers trying to get in. My only issue is that I have left an Ipod containing some extremely important documents in a drawer, I have called a few times and they keep saying that House keeping will check. Im not questioning that this is the case but Id rather have someone just run up and check which does not seem like a big deal, Im sure the room has already been put together, im sitting by the phone praying to hear back. *Fingers Crossed.

"Well worth the money"
07/18/14 Frida O
The rooms are tidy, the location's great and the staff is friendly. The furniture are a bit worn, but considering the price the rooms are kept in a decent shape. The breakfast is good, but has a limited variation. The free wifi is working excellent. I would recommend this place.

Stayed with my niece and sister-in-law for a girls 4 day weekend getaway. The room was nice, beds very comfortable, friendly staff and good continental breakfast. Loved the location. Lots of walking which is good to burn off all of the good food that you eat in Montreal. Had a nice view of Mount Royal and the university area. Fairly good underground mall with a supermarket. I would definitely stay again. Good value for your money.
"Maintenance worker walked into my room unannounced"
06/26/14 Marta S Penticton, Canada
I decided to try this place recently and had a nasty surprise. The room was ok, a bit outdated with older furniture, but a good size and fairly clean. Shortly after I checked in a man walked into my room unannounced. I was not expecting anyone and screamed for him to get out of the room. I had no idea who he was. He left and I then called front desk to ask what was going on. They said they didn't know and they would check it out. They called back 15 minutes later and said that he was a housekeeper/maintenance worker and thought the room was empty because I was originally booked into another room but I requested a room on a lower floor and I am assuming the front desk did not inform the housekeeper the room was now occupied. However no apology was offered. I would not stay at this place again mainly because of that incident. How true the front desk' s story is I am not sure. I should have read the other reviews on trip advisor before checking in. If I had I would never have checked in.
"Carbuncle on the face of an old friend"
06/23/14 Simon J Richmond, Canada
Stained carpets, torn and frayed, buckling from neglect, a front counter eager for a role in the next Hitchcockian thriller, rickity elevators that groan with indignation, beds that sag in the centre, threadbare towels and the overall dim ambience of a flop-house. At the self-service breakfast the coffee was watery (imagine not being able to get good coffee in Montreal), the muffins tasted of lard, and the rest was too unspeakable to describe. The kitchen staff never cracked a smile - and why should they given the quality of goods they had to lay out. While one front desk clerk was helpful, none of the others appeared to enjoy the hospitality role and wore sourpuss faces and responded with impatience to the most rudimentary questions posed in English and in French. Had I not been chock-a-bloc with conference meetings, I would have checked out. This hotel is not worthy of the fine reputation of one of the world's best universities. I would not stay there again.
