outside of the hotel is a little dirty otherwise okGenuine Expedia guest review
Very nice hotel in a location convenient to San Diego's downtown and Balboa Park. Parking was extra though, and there is limited parking in the hotel courtyard. When that fills up you have to go park in an underground garage around the corner, and this can be inconvenient if you have to drag your luggage to your room. My room was a bit small, but fine […] for my needs. The bathroom was also small and didn't have room for a full-sized tub. A couple of the windows didn't work right. Wifi signal was good from my room. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Way overpriced.Outside trash all over the place, very outdated. Needs major remodeling, at least the room that was asigned to me.But good breakfastGenuine Expedia guest review
"Last minute birthday stay"
This hotel was not very clean. It had gnats all over the room and in the breakfast area. We were moved to another room that has less gnats so I guess that was ok. Parking was fair at 16 per night however the room rate was ridiculous at 200 per night in which it changed within 5 minutes while I was putting in my cc info. "Great front desk staff"
My plane arrived late and I was unable to make the 9:00 free shuttle service. The staff was very understanding and reimbersed $15.00 for my taxi fare. The rooms were very clean and the beds comfortable. The only down fall was there wasn't a bathtub just a shower.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Red Roof has come a long Way!!"
You know I have stayed in many fancy 4 and 5 star hotels and though they have great aesthetics and usually good service sometimes they just lack genuineness. I had to take this last minute trip for business and this Red Roof was in a great location downtown close to everything and was a great value for the money. The service was awesome and I would […] like to thank the manager Nick V for making my experience there pleasant. Now I will say the hotel doesn't have all the bells and whistles of big fancy chains but the rooms were clean and comfortable and remodeled. There was an iron and ironing board. The bathroom was nice but the tubs are half tubs but they were cute. There was free coffee and tea in the mornings in the lobby. There are plenty of restaurants in the area. There was a moderate fee for parking. Overall I say this hotel is a great stay for a good price. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good hotel for price range and location."
staff was good, they have a nice serve yourself breakfast in the morning. Make your own waffles, some fruit (oranges), cereals, coffee, juice, milk, bagels, english muffins, toast.Genuine Expedia guest review
I should have paid 30$ more for a better hotel. Tiny room. No flat screen. Small tub. I had to go get my extra pillow from a closet at the front desk. Hardly a selection on the cable channels. Room said it had a refrigerator but it didn't have one. Staff was nice. I will never visit a Red Roof again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great hotel close to everything!"
The guy checking us in was so incredibly nice. It was a great welcome to San Diego. We had a great experience with everyone else we worked with, the free breakfast, the cleaning staff, and just the whole hotel in general. We will definitely stay here again!Genuine Expedia guest review
We find it difficult to believe any hotel would allow a bed to make as much noise as the king size bed we had in 3rd floor room. Even the slightest movement on the mattress caused a wake you up every time noise... like taking two balloons full of air and rubbing them together.... every movement. The shower set new standard for low flow.... worst we […] have ever stayed at. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"some good features, but..."
There are things I like about this Red Roof Inn: for example, it is less than a mile from Gaslamp in downtown San Diego, and it's a brilliant idea to have clean hardwood floors instead of the usual grungy hotel carpet. Breakfast also was pretty good, with make-them-yourself waffles. But there is virtually no "soundproofing," and we could hear noise […] from over us, under us, and on all sides. Parking is an additional $16 per night. The bed was average--but the king had two very definite body indentations. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Walking distance to everything!"
we arrived way early, several hours in fact. The young man at the desk was so gracious and told us there wasn't a room ready *( it was 9:00 a..m.) but others had checked out and cleaning staff was cleaning a room. We walked around, went to eat and upon our return which was around 11 a.m., were able to check into our room. This hotel is in the heart […] of San Diego. It's close to Hillcrest, a mere 2 mile walk or cab ride and closer to the Gaslamp, a mere 1 mile walk. Restaurants abound and SoleLuna across Ash St is pretty great!. I SO RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL! The staff? Helpful and Gracious - all of them. The location? fantastic! DO STAY HERE! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great downtown location"
The hotel is very central in downtown and we were able to walk to the gas lamp area. The office attendant Ivan was super friendly and helpful. The room is pretty basic and was perfect for our one night stay.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Pretty Much What I'd Expected"
Cheap price (except for parking) reasonable location. Definitely NOT a vacation retreat. Clean room, comfortable bed, friendly staff. A bit noisy due to the surroundingsGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Nice room clean everything, close to gas lamp"
The room was great, clean everything, hard wood floors, booked a king bed. Everything was really nice and worth the price for a night at gas lampGenuine Expedia guest review
They have a great location... far enough away from crowds but close to walk to excitement. The rooms are ok but bathrooms are horrible and my shower was cold but my friend after was warm. Parking is NOT free!!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Rooms are small, however I only went for a place to get ready to go out and a place to sleep. Bed was pretty comfy. The shower floor was pretty unstable and the walls were really thin, sounded like the people next door were in your room. Other than that, it was a good place.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I went to San Diego on a baseball trip and to see as much of the city as I could in days, The Red Roof Inn was located a 15-20 minute walk from the park. It was also a 15-20 minute walk to the water front. When I needed to drive it was very easy to get on I-5, or to drive up to Balboa Park. Mission Hills and LaJolla were also a 20-30 minute drive away. The […] room was small, especially the bathroom. The shower was excellent with plenty of hot water. The TV was old and small but I was not there to watch TV. The room was clean and the front desk staff was friendly and EXTREMELY helpful. They made it easy for me to get around the city and to reach the nearby attractions. The free breakfast was simple but satisfying with plenty to eat. I would definitely stay at this hotel were I to return to San Diego. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Decent hotel but can get noisy & unsafe"
My stay was pretty much what I expected. It's Red Roof Inn, not the Marriott Marquis. Housekeeping was fine and the front desk personnel were mainly fine. My issues had to do with the other guests at the hotel. I stayed over a weekend, and there were two nights where I was abruptly awakened by drunken 20-somethings shouting obscenities, slamming doors, […] etc in the wee hours of the morning. I called the front desk and they weren't super helpful. They 'sent security' to go take a look, but after 15 minutes, the commotion was still going on. I called back and was told that I would have to be more specific about where I was hearing the noise. He sounded exasperated. I was not pleased. I'd be weary about returning to this location for a weekend, and if I had kids, I wouldn't stay there. I simply didn't feel safe. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Very nice staff, good for the price"
I was staying in San Diego for a conference and this was in my budget. Location is great, close to the trolley and the Balboa park. There are some hills around the area so be ready to walk. Room was comfortable, but the walls are a little thin, I turned on the fan to block the noise and it was perfect. The bathroom could use a little make over, since […] there is no real tub to sink in after a long day. Free Shuttle to the airport and breakfast are definitely a plus! But it's not a hotel I would go to hang out in the hotel, since there is nothing else really for amenities. Overall, good and comfortable stay. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"It's in a great location"
My friends and I have stayed there for several years in a row now. It used to be a Roadway, but now it's a Red Roof. I don't know if I've ever stayed in a Red Roof before but it was nice.Genuine Expedia guest review
"cheap, convenient, not for a relaxing stay"
Light sleepers, beware! Situated in the popular Gaslamp district, the Red Roof is walking distance from the stadium, San Diego Zoo/Balboa Park, various bus and train stations, Horton Plaza, and lots of restaurants. They provide free shuttles to and from the airport, free breakfast (not a stellar selection, but enough to get you through until dinner), […] and of course have a low, low price. The concierge is very friendly and knowledgeable and there's a little mart across the street for your immediate needs. That being said, you can hear everything within your room - conversations of the people outside or when your upstairs neighbor decides to take a shower. If you're a stickler for cleanliness, the room will disappoint - there was a thin layer of grime over the shower floor and dust over everything else in the room. tldr; a cheap stay but it definitely shows Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Good hotel overall"
The room was nice. The TV reception only had one clear station, the rest were grainy/snowy and could barely see the picture. Had an issue one night with the underground parking. You are supposed to pull up and ring a buzzer and be let in. I sat at the buzzer pushing it every few seconds for 12 minutes (yep, I timed it). Then I had to back out of the […] driveway onto a one way street, make my way around several other one way streets to get back to the lobby where I could ask what was up. They said they never heard the buzzer and would go an watch the security camera for me. So I trek back around the block (even though the garage is around the corner--stupid one way streets) and finally the buzzer and/or camera worked and they let me in. Wasted my time, in my opinion. Other than that, the hotel part was nice, though they didn't empty my trash can one night, and I had fast food garbage in it that luckily didn't start to smell by the time I checked out. "One night stay!"
We needed a room for a one night stay before our airport departure. The hotel was okay, clean, and the staff was helpful. Suggest requesting a room in the back as the street noise was a little loud at times.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice and cheap, 20min from the convention center"
OK, reasonable breakfast, friendly staff, arranged for a wake up call and taxi at 4:20 am as I requested, directed me to a nice restaurant (across the street).Genuine Expedia guest review
Nothing special. Room was clean and spacious. Our tub had issues. Grounds were plain with no amenities. Disappointed to learn they cut the complimentary breakfast. Would have been a fairly good value, but with parking an additional $18 and very limited free parking in the surrounding area, it counteracts the value of this hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"A little scary"
I knew checking in that it was a smaller hotel. Just an overnight stay. Front staff was super nice. Cart for my luggage was broken. When entering my room I noticed that the pervious place for the security chain had been ripped from the wall. The new security chain had only 1 screw in it. Traveling alone, I was neverous for my safety. Hot water in shower […] made HORRIBLE sound. Also heard it coming from a different room, to it wasnt just my room. When checking out, overheard front staff discussing the police report that had been filed early that morning. Air port shuttle is shared with holiday inn, insure you make an appointment. He was on ontime which was the best part of the stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

It serve the purpose, we stayed the night waiting for a late flight, but hotel is falling apart, make reservation a week in advance and rooms where not ready at checking time of 1500hrs. We end it up in a handicap accessible room both days. Room were falling apart: wall paper coming off the walls, bed frames had a life of their own, and the shower area […] were falling apart. I really enjoyed the stay was left alone and not bothered during daylight hours which I enjoyed seeing I was there only for the night life. Enjoyed the price compared to other hotels, walking distance to everything with the exception of walking up hills. overall great for me during my 41st Birthday..Parking is really to expensive there at 16 a night […] for a lower end hotel didn't like that but what ever parking prices my stop me from another visit but I have to do my homework with surrounding hotels first.
