"Neat & clean, but not a resort."
First time staying there. Immediate impression is one of home. The staff at the door greeted me with a smile which is always nice, and the speech was pleasant and very amiable. The room though left something to be desired. There are no ice ,machines like every other hotel, only two ice trays (though filled) did not have enough ice for my needs for […] the evening. I understand that there is a kitchenette, but without soap or sponges to wash with, I was not very sure about just how clean the dishes were that I was to use or about how I should get them clean after using them. The "cable TV" did not have many channels, and there was even a list of area codes and exchanges that "count as long distance calls" when you dialed them. I've never seen that before. First let me start by saying, I would NOT Recommend this hotel to a living soul. The hotel is very old, very filthy, and the hotel staff is inept to say the least. They were friendly but useless. My company had booked 4 rooms for 7 days. The first room # 119; I walked in and found the headboard hanging half on the wall and half behind the bed. It looked like the bed was leaning and there was a large hole that had been badly patched on the bathroom door. I called the front desk and they immediately changed my room. My next room #113, in the bathroom human hair was all over the floor, in the kitchen crumbs were on the floor, the telephone was broken, the counters were dirty, and the bedroom comforter had a dead insect stuck to it. I spoke to the manager; she was polite and moved me yet again. Third room #112, this room at first glance was better, but I never looked behind the bathroom door. I was about to shower and there on the hook were some dirty clothes that had been left by the last tenant. The people traveling with me had similar horrifying tells. "Not my favorite place to stay."
I saw that we would arrive late. I called the hotel to let them know that. We requested a handicap room with the reservation. When we arrived, 10:30p we were sent to a room with a very long walk down the hall. We called the desk and asked if there was a closer room to the entrance, or a handicap room. They did have a handicap room. The desk clerk said, […] have you messed up the room you're in? Of course, our answer was no. The handicap room we were moved to was not completly guest ready. No spread or blanket on the bed, only the sheets. We had to wait for someone to come to take care of that. No extra toliet paper, etc. It was a 2 star hotel and it wasn't that great. Only because I am extremely busy have I not already called to complain to the corporate office. Upon arrival (1pm), not once did either representative smile while nonchalantly "processing" my reservation only to tell my finally that my room wasn't ready. When I asked "Why not?" #since it was reserved days ahead#, I was told that the previous guests […] had just checked out. When I asked how that should effect me, I was reminded that I had indicated that I may be arriving late due to travel. I then questioned check in time and was told it was 3pm. Check in/out times are not indicated in the itenerary anywhere. I was told they would try to clean the room within the next 1/2 hr if possible. I had just come off the road and needed to use the lavatory asap. I repeatedly told there wasn't any public restroom and would not be accomodated but that I was welcome to try the 7-Eleven down the street. The entire hotel smelled of garbage, cigarette smoke, body odor, etc. There were random dead bugs in corners. The bed was like sleeping on the floor. I had to keep the a/c running in order to breath "fresh" air during my stay. I could go on and on but I'm by now you all get my drift. When we arrived, I had to wait ten minutes for someone to come to the front desk for me to check in. "Extended Stay in St. Louis"
We were disappointed in this extended stay. We have stayed in extended stays in the Columbia, Mo. area an had good experiences. The staff in this hotel were nice and did their best to accomodate us, but not always knowledgable about the rooms. We were promised by Hotels.com a deluxe room with a recliner for my husband as he as sleep apnea and must […] sleep in an elevated position. When we arrived, our room did not have a recliner. The desk clerk looked through 3 rooms before she found a recliner. And, it was not in a deluxe room but rather a regular size room. Then, we were promised a non-smoking room as I have asthma and chemical sensitivity. You could tell that the rooms had been smoked in, nicotine was on the wall of the room where it had sweated on the wall paper and our room had cigarette burns on the counters in the bathroom. The clerk said it had not been smoked in. (Hmmm...) Since we arrived late in the evening, we stayed out of necessity. We had to sleep with the window opened on the first floor just to have fresh air which was a bit scary not knowing the neighborhood. I was glad I brought my air freshner (green) to spray every hour or so to contain the smell. The room just did not feel clean. Maybe because it was an older, outdated facility. Then, the bathroom sink was stopped up and we had to call for maintenance. And, if you did not know this, people do live in these extended stays like an apt. So, if you don't like this type of environment, stay in a regular hotel. have had good experiences with Hotels.com before, but they definitely didn't know the whole story on this hotel.
