"Service is lacking"
I was underwhelemed by my stay at the fairmont. It seemed like a very functional buisness hotel, but, not a luxury hotel (wihch I had expected). Service was just ok. Service at the pool was almost non-exsitent -- the staff was primarily huddled around the bar talk amongst themselves. I had to go out of my way to get there attention. This happened multiple […] times. Service at their lounge Anti-Dote was similar. My guests and waited around for over 15 minutes without getting served, again I had to get up to get a waitress. We placed our orders, waited another 15 minutes for the waitress to return only to tell us that she couldn't serve the drinks that we'd ordered (appearently these are only available during diner hours). As for my room it was large had a desk and nice view, but, the room itself seemed a bit dated and could use a fresh coat of paint and some updated furnishings. I was waiting for the email that ask: "How was Fairmont Singapore?" :) The short answer: I will definitely go back! Lets start with How lovely is the smell in Fairmont Lobby!! Fairmont was amazing! We got the Harbor View Room on the South tower. We ordered few times room service, food was excellent & service in high level. I mentioned i had Birthday […] tomorrow and the day after I heard knock on the door... The hotel sent me Birthday cake + Happy Bday letter!!! That's Service :) The room is Big and convenient with the lounge sofa, Desk, Balcony and the smart home controllers! The room was renovated beautifully, shower is Spacious. Knowing the brand Fairmont we knew what to expect and on most levels it exceeded our expectations ! There were two flaws that made it not perfect, the first was when we took our daughter to the pool in the evening it was closed for a function, which is understandable and we know this happens but we were never informed at check in. When we went to the […] front desk the clerk didn't know it was closed and when she asked another person ( supervisor) they didn't know either and had to call someone to confirm the pool's closure. The concierge went out of their way to get our tickets for Universal Studios. One thing to beware of is the free shuttle bus fills up before it gets to the sister hotel, as it is the last stop before the shuttle heads to Universal studios. The hotel is well located... easy to get around from here. We took the metro directly from the airport to the hotel, it was very easy and convenient. The hotel is located above Raffles City mall which is extremely convenient as one doesn't have to venture far for breakfast, a quick and cheap meal, pharmacy or a trip to the grocery store... these are […] all located in the lower ground level of the mall. Hotel staff were all very helpful and polite. The only downside for us was that we were given a room with two twin beds and the lady at check-in said that they would get the beds joined for us. However, no one showed up to do this and since we were so tired, we pushed them together ourselves, but our 3 yr old was uncomfortable in the middle. This is a high end hotel, with a lovely pool - and the best thing going is breakfast by the pool after your morning swim! It's huge, with multiple restaurants and two separate towers. The staff are helpful, and the rooms were fairly quiet, though there was some street noise since they were almost TOO quiet... We bought a bargain package on Expedia, […] but I think it's better to buy a more expensive "package" deal that includes breakfast and internet. Before the stay, I had quite a high expectation regarding the hotel since its rating is high on various websites, and Tripadvisor as well. However, there were a few things that made my stay miserable. I'd suggest that hotel should completely BAN the consumption of Durian in the hotel premises. Once I got onto my floor, it was full of strong durian smell […] in the lift lobby and corridor. I must say that I was very lucky NOT to have the durian smell in my room. Secondly, the hotel has poor sound insulation, every night, I could hear very clearly the footsteps of the people outside my room, and the sound my neighbors made when they closed the door, which was very disturbing. The last thing about the stay was that - I fully paid for the hotel when I made the booking on hotels.com, however when I was checking out, it charged me again (I thought my credit card was used only for deposit purposes), if you aren't careful enough to check your credit card statement, you may probably have missed it and ended up paying more! "Pros and cons"
Bed was EXTREMELY comfortable, which is rare in Asian hotels. I asked for a quiet location and woke up around midnight on our 2nd night to a loud party going on next door. Called front desk and they said they would investigate. Noise continued and called again 30 mins later. Front desk promised to find party and put and end to it. I ended up calling […] 4 times and after 2.5 hrs, the noise finally stopped. I was not happy that it took so long to resolve the issue and I brought this to the attention of the manager the next day. The manager (Polly) was very apologetic. She was aware of my situation, and said she would see what she could to compensate for our inconvenience. We received a knock at the door about an hr later and it was room service bringing a bottle of wine with a fruit basket and a box of chocolates. I appreciated the kind gesture and thanked the manager the next day when I saw her, but I encouraged her to speak with her security to make sure they would respond and resolve the matter more quickly next time. We had one of the best times ever. I reserved a Signature room for my wife and I and our visiting daughter. I was pleasantly surprised, during check in, that we were upgraded to Executive Club. The 24th view of the marina bay was unbelievable for day and night viewing. I would give this hotel a higher rating except for the terrible check-in. We arrived at 3 pm and after 20 min at the front desk, we were told to come back in 1 hour as they were just beginning to clean the room because they were at 100% capacity. I could understand if this was earlier in the day but if the normal check-in is at 3, then they need to […] be ready...Period!. Absolutely no way they should allow late check outs if you've got a full house. The room was fine but the North Tower is getting a bit dated. Carpet needs to be changed, and the bathroom needs to be completely gutted. The toilet flusher on the wall was stiff and difficult to push in, and the shower handles were all worn down and also difficult to manipulate. I always had to turn on and adjust the controls for my 8 year old. There was either a leak in the plumbing or the room upstairs had a flood as water had leaked down while we were out. The first and most remarkable thing you notice about the Fairmont is the really excellent service. The staff are amazingly friendly and cannot do enough to help. They are there to greet you on arrival, they help when you need a sewing kit or cannot understand how to work the expresso machine in your room and they are there to help in the choice of breakfast […] and gave extra samples of the hotels brand of tea to take to the room, they suggest local places of interest to visit and really made the stay very special. Even though it was only a one night stay it was a memorable stay. We went on our honeymoon and stayed for 2 days. Our room was upgraded to the deluxe suite for the honeymoon. We received flowers and a kind thank you card from the hotel staff. The room was immaculate. The bed was super cozy. The service was top notch, from the welcome drink to the breakfast to room service to the pool. This is a beautiful hotel, and we received an upgrade without having to ask. The view of Singapore from our 15th floor room was gorgeous. The staff was very helpful, check in was fast and easy, and arranging transport with lots of luggage to the airport very early the next morning was no problem.
