This motel will not hold your luggage after you check out. I went to this hotel to spend the day in San Fransisco on Saturday then go to the Raider game on Sunday. I needed to checkout Sunday morning then go to the game. I wanted the hotel to hold my bags till after the game. They said no. We were lucky to bribe another hotel to hold our bags till after the game. I would never be able to use this hotel again with this restriction.

Booked for 2guys for brief stay wanting to be as near as possible to all bars and attractions for as little money as possible. Area had many homeless but not a problem. On site car parking was a bonus. Rooms clean, beds v.comfortable, free WIFI as promised. No luxury at all but not to be expected! Perfect for what we needed. Would use again in same circumstances but wouldnt take missus or kids mainly due to location and sheer numbers of homeless people.

For what we needed the room for I would stay here again, but they need to fix some of the problems. Only 1 elevator was running when we arrived and is very slow. We had to keep waiting for the elevetor due to the staff was using it for the maid carts and wouldn't hold the door while they got out so the doors would close before we could get in. Upon check in the front desk was not very friendly. When we got to the room the door would not open. Had to go back downstairs to lobby and were told "well did you pull up and pull toward you to open" guess I missed that memo. Went back upstairs and had to fight the door for about 5 minutes. When it came time to leave for a few hours my friend had to run back up to the room and her key did not work and we had to have both keys re-scanned again. The neighborhood was not all that great but at least the rooms were secure.

The hotel was very nice and affordable. We were looking to enjoy the night life and found that most the bars, clubs, and lounges that were popular were right on our street. At night we stayed within about 3 blocks of our hotel and had an amazing time. Easy access to the Bart subway system and various tram cars to Fisherman's Warf and the downtown area. Not a bad area if you don't mind a couple of interesting characters walking about.

Arrived at hotel. "Full range of ammenities" means a couple towels and a small bar of soap. Had a two bed room for two people. No drawers for clothing. Two coat hangers. No shampoo or conditioner. No iron. No hair blower. No coffee pot or coffee. We were told shampoo and conditioner could be obtained from the vendine machine down the hall. It was empty. Ice machine was broken. Went to next floor. Same story with vending machine and ice machine. Finally found ice on first floor. Vending machine had shampoo but no conditioner. Hall was filthy and carpet was badly stained. Air conditioner never got the room cool. Pan handlers outside presented a "night of the living dead" experience - grabbing at you and following you around. Would not stay here again!!!!!

The location of the hotel is kind of intimidating to a first-time San Francisco visitor. The elevator and hallways of the floor we stayed on were eerie and drab. The room itself was a nice size, and I was pleased that there was a refrigerator and a microwave in the room. However, our television did not work. Had we not already unpacked our suitcases, we would have requested a different room with a working TV. I did appreciate the free parking, as it was one of the reasons we chose to stay at this hotel. We were in a non-smoking room, but the floor still smelled of smoke, which was disappointing.

We thought this would be a great hotel because of all the attractions surrounding it. But it turned out to be in a very sketchy neighborhood. We are two girls traveling and we were approached by random people on the street next to the hotel telling us that we shouldn't be walking in this neighborhood. This was not comforting!

The Motel 6 claimed to be in Union Square. Not exactly. It was about 7 blocks away from the heart of the shopping. Wouldn't be such a bad walk except for the neighborhood. Lots of drunks, hypodermic syringes on the sidewalk, and a bloody brawl on a street corner. Interestingly, we heard sirens all night but couldn't find a police officer to intervene in the fight. The motel itself was very pleasant. The rooms were clean and the staff was friendly. Free parking was a huge bonus. I suppose if you used a cab for door to door service, the Motel 6 would be acceptable.

A long time ago we had stayed at this hotel (when it was a different hotel chain) and it was fine. But recently it changed and is terrible. Our room had no fridge/microwave, no clock, no basic small bathroom items (shampoo, etc). The staff was out moving lawn furniture around on the patio at 7 am on a Saturday right outside our window. In the few years since we had been there everything seemed to have gone downhill. It is right in the middle of where we were going in the city, but not worth the money. I would rather pay more and drive farther to stay in a safer and more reasonable hotel.

I have passed this Motel 6 many times and was less than impressed. It is located on the perimeter of a rather rough neighborhood and the storefront is more driveway than anything else. All in all, not very inviting. However, the staff was courteous and helpful, the lobby and rooms were neat and comfortable. Our bathroom had just been remodeled, and the shower was excellent (not cramped and an adjustable showerhead with more than adequate pressure.) The location puts one in walking distance to city hall, the opera house and symphony, shopping in Union Square, Polk Street, Van Ness, Market and Hayes Valley. There are many fine local flavors as well as a few very good restaurants nearby, as well. The neighborhood never sleeps, and one should keep their heads up and eyes open when walking in most areas. I never felt threatened, but I could see how some might with the assortment of characters omnipresent at most hours. The price is right if you're looking for a comfortable bed in a central location, and don't mind occasionally mingling with the local street folk.

It's not much to admire on the outside, but the inside was clean, and the bathrooms looked like they had recently been redone. It's not the Drake, but it's nice enough and a pleasant 20-minute walk to Chinatown. One word of caution, I heard some domestic disturbance noises a door or two down, which almost prompted me to call the police. I don't know if that's typical for this part of the city.
