"Over rated hotel"
Called and asked for a 1pm check in and was told ok. Upon arrival at -pm room not ready. Came back at 5-pm and ready. One chair in room had awful stains on upholstered cushion. "Not what I expected - Great location"
Client satisfaction is not an absolute measure but depends on where your expectations are. My experience with The Plaza NY was not good. Building is very nice but the accomodation are not that good. Light commands in the room are confusing to operate, there was an ipad in the room from where you could also manage lights and AC, but it had some conection […] issues with the other devices. The Plaza can be summarized as perfect--perfect service, perfect location, and perfect experience of a golden hotel era. I love the Fairmont brand of hotels. Hotel room: the deluxe rooms are clean and of a nice size. Due to the age of the hotel, the rooms are not standard, so sometimes a room is smaller than another of the same type. The bathrooms are […] beautiful and clean. The bath amenities are Caudelie--very nice. The beds comfortable. Dining: the room service is okay. The selection is good but the food itself is just okay. The kitchen staff is very accommodating. What I suggest is going to the lower level Upscale Food Court below the Plaza. The food is more affordable than room service, and excellent. It is cafeteria style, but great for a quick breakfast or lunch. Billy's cupcakes is amazing! The Champagne Bar was lovely as usual. The servers/bartender will make you anything you wish (even if not on the menu) and the food is nice. The Palm Court was closed for renovations. We usually have afternoon tea there, so we had it in the Champagne Bar. It was good, but some of the ambiance was lost. Location: next to Central Park, and Bergdorfs--can't beat that! Overall, I strongly suggest the Fairmont. I have stayed at the Peninsula, The London and the St Regis. While I enjoy the Fairmont and the Peninsula, the St Regis does not live up to the hype--it smells musty/dank which I cannot stand. The London is a great option too! "Completely disappointing and NOT 5 Star AT ALL!"
The staff does not care about you. The ac units are not maintained and they break down. The room service prices are ridiculously high, not worth it and they do not come back to clean up after you have finished. A perfect example is; I ordered two espresso coffees as my breakfast. They charged me $39 for both coffees and then the dirty cups, napkins […] and tray stayed in my room until 7pm when I finally returned back to the room and complained to the front desk supervisor. The front door men only talk to themselves without paying any attention to the guests. The housekeeping staff does not clean up properly nor do they bring extra towels when requested. After all my aggravation, their offer to make up for everything they did to me and my family for 5 days was to bring a small plate of chocolates, waive one light dinner we ordered to our room and hand me their business card so the next time we stay they will give us a free room upgrade. Hotel's service is not meet up with its reputation. They charged us three times for the room fees even which was fully paid through Hotel.com. "A stay where we had to pay for everything."
The Plaza hotel is very expensive. On top we had to pay for Wi fi (15$ taxes) per 24 hours , car parking (65$ per day) and not even a bottle of water or coffee maker in our room. The Hotel restaurant is really over priced. One evening for 1 glass of wine (the least expensive) and 2 Shirley Temple cost me 39$. On the restaurant menu I saw breakfast for […] 2 for 103$!!!! "Night in the City"
The hotel is lovely, with a feeling of a bygone age exuding elegance. Check in service was excellent, while restaurant and bar services were spotty. "Weekend Stacy with Wife & Young Toddler"
I set up a surprise weekend in NYC for my wife's birthday over July 4th. Everything about the hotel is five star. My only concern is I don't think I got the room I paid for...Reserved a Deluxe Room not a suite but it didn't have a bath tub. Needless to say I would stay here again any time. "A Disappointing Experience"
My wife and I were traveling through NYC for one night on our way to Connecticut, and, because it seemed that it would be a once-in-a-lifetime experience, we decided to book a room at the Plaza: what we thought to be the quintessential NYC hotel experience. Upon arrival, at around 5 in the evening (by no means LATE), we were informed that our room, […] for some reason, was "No longer available"...This after having a CONFIRMED reservation with GUARANTEED late check-in. The situation was handled well-enough. We were given other accommodations, and the Front Office Manager informed us that upon our next visit, we would receive a complimentary upgrade. Fine. Having worked in hotels for a number of years, I understand that hotels will, from time to time, overbook to get the best possible chance at 100% occupancy. When this happens with NO WALKS (having to get guests other accommodations due to overbooking), it's a "perfect sell"...a great night in hotels. The fact that we were walked from THE PLAZA a mere 2 hours after check-in began, was the ultimate disappointment. Particularly due to the fact that we ended up in what to me was a well-below-acceptable alternative (The Trump International; nice to be sure, but in a room that was HALF the rate we were paying for the Plaza.) At the end of the day, we were only in NYC for the one night, but having planned the NYC leg of our trip around the fact that we were going to be at the Plaza, this left a VERY sour taste in my mouth. "Beautiful & historic - but not comfortable"
Enjoyable to stay here to experience the historic glamour but not really well-suited for business travel. Loud trucks and horn honking wake you up at all hours of the night and my suite did not have a television within sight of the bed. Stay was fine timing was bad. By the dates I think u know. Disappointed in the breakfast said we wanted off menus an was charged the same 75.00 each. "Hotel under construction remodeling/very noisy"
If a hotel is under construction/remodeling or maintenance I think guests should be informed of this upon booking. I payed $1,000 a night, flew in from Taiwan, had jet lag, wanted to rest, and from early on in the morning hammering noises could be heard. It was a nice hotel. You pay for the nice. Excellent service. Had small issues with technology in the room....the phone chimed every 3 minutes, flashed lights, and presented the message "upgrading firmware - load failure" starting at 7am.....this was only solved by disabling the phone which made reporting the issue impossible from the room. Construction […] noise would have been a big deal if we had planned on sleeping in especially If I was focused on how much I was paying for the room......it would have been unacceptible at a Holiday Inn at a fifth the price, but we were out of hte room most of the time. The construction had the windows covered in scaffolding and a mesh, that when viewed from outside the hotel, had an image on it that resembled the hotel......to hide the construction appearance. The somewhat cheesey streaming of the "Great Gatsby" trailer on the room tv everytime you turned it on served to highlight that the hotel was featured in the film, but made me consider how toursity the hotel was for the money.
