"Outstanding and Beautiful!"
We were in town to drop my son off to his first year Columbia and we were overwhelmed with the things we needed to get done. The hotel and concierge were outstanding in helping us achieve every detail. We had a beautiful room with all the grandness you would expect and after taking our son to his first day, we relaxed in the Champagne Bar..........we […] needed it. Our every whelm was taken care of and we were treated as if we ownd the hotel itself. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The Plaza can be summarized as perfect--perfect service, perfect location, and perfect experience of a golden hotel era. I love the Fairmont brand of hotels. Hotel room: the deluxe rooms are clean and of a nice size. Due to the age of the hotel, the rooms are not standard, so sometimes a room is smaller than another of the same type. The bathrooms are […] beautiful and clean. The bath amenities are Caudelie--very nice. The beds comfortable. Dining: the room service is okay. The selection is good but the food itself is just okay. The kitchen staff is very accommodating. What I suggest is going to the lower level Upscale Food Court below the Plaza. The food is more affordable than room service, and excellent. It is cafeteria style, but great for a quick breakfast or lunch. Billy's cupcakes is amazing! The Champagne Bar was lovely as usual. The servers/bartender will make you anything you wish (even if not on the menu) and the food is nice. The Palm Court was closed for renovations. We usually have afternoon tea there, so we had it in the Champagne Bar. It was good, but some of the ambiance was lost. Location: next to Central Park, and Bergdorfs--can't beat that! Overall, I strongly suggest the Fairmont. I have stayed at the Peninsula, The London and the St Regis. While I enjoy the Fairmont and the Peninsula, the St Regis does not live up to the hype--it smells musty/dank which I cannot stand. The London is a great option too! "The plaza great. Old charm and elegance"
The plaza is aways great and the rooms are always lush and clean. It's expensive but worth itGenuine Expedia guest review
"Completely disappointing and NOT 5 Star AT ALL!"
The staff does not care about you. The ac units are not maintained and they break down. The room service prices are ridiculously high, not worth it and they do not come back to clean up after you have finished. A perfect example is; I ordered two espresso coffees as my breakfast. They charged me $39 for both coffees and then the dirty cups, napkins […] and tray stayed in my room until 7pm when I finally returned back to the room and complained to the front desk supervisor. The front door men only talk to themselves without paying any attention to the guests. The housekeeping staff does not clean up properly nor do they bring extra towels when requested. After all my aggravation, their offer to make up for everything they did to me and my family for 5 days was to bring a small plate of chocolates, waive one light dinner we ordered to our room and hand me their business card so the next time we stay they will give us a free room upgrade. NO THANKS!!!! I don't need more aggravation like this plus a free room upgrade. There are many more hotels in NYC that TRULY ARE 5 Star! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great location and luxury room..."
It's a great location, luxurious room and but terrible service...room service and lobby waiters.Genuine Expedia guest review
Hotel's service is not meet up with its reputation. They charged us three times for the room fees even which was fully paid through Hotel.com. Don't ever park your car in front of the hotel, even if you stay in the car, or even if the concierge agreed. You will get ticketed.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"A stay where we had to pay for everything."
The Plaza hotel is very expensive. On top we had to pay for Wi fi (15$ taxes) per 24 hours , car parking (65$ per day) and not even a bottle of water or coffee maker in our room. The Hotel restaurant is really over priced. One evening for 1 glass of wine (the least expensive) and 2 Shirley Temple cost me 39$. On the restaurant menu I saw breakfast for […] 2 for 103$!!!! Guests next door had small children who screamed and cried at night and very early in the morning. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Night in the City"
The hotel is lovely, with a feeling of a bygone age exuding elegance. Check in service was excellent, while restaurant and bar services were spotty. I found the servers inattentive much of the time and the Palm Court seemed undermanned. My room was tasteful and elegant, with a friendly maid on the floor.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Weekend Stacy with Wife & Young Toddler"
I set up a surprise weekend in NYC for my wife's birthday over July 4th. Everything about the hotel is five star. My only concern is I don't think I got the room I paid for...Reserved a Deluxe Room not a suite but it didn't have a bath tub. Needless to say I would stay here again any time. "A Disappointing Experience"
My wife and I were traveling through NYC for one night on our way to Connecticut, and, because it seemed that it would be a once-in-a-lifetime experience, we decided to book a room at the Plaza: what we thought to be the quintessential NYC hotel experience. Upon arrival, at around 5 in the evening (by no means LATE), we were informed that our room, […] for some reason, was "No longer available"...This after having a CONFIRMED reservation with GUARANTEED late check-in. The situation was handled well-enough. We were given other accommodations, and the Front Office Manager informed us that upon our next visit, we would receive a complimentary upgrade. Fine. Having worked in hotels for a number of years, I understand that hotels will, from time to time, overbook to get the best possible chance at 100% occupancy. When this happens with NO WALKS (having to get guests other accommodations due to overbooking), it's a "perfect sell"...a great night in hotels. The fact that we were walked from THE PLAZA a mere 2 hours after check-in began, was the ultimate disappointment. Particularly due to the fact that we ended up in what to me was a well-below-acceptable alternative (The Trump International; nice to be sure, but in a room that was HALF the rate we were paying for the Plaza.) At the end of the day, we were only in NYC for the one night, but having planned the NYC leg of our trip around the fact that we were going to be at the Plaza, this left a VERY sour taste in my mouth. "Beautiful & historic - but not comfortable"
Enjoyable to stay here to experience the historic glamour but not really well-suited for business travel. Loud trucks and horn honking wake you up at all hours of the night and my suite did not have a television within sight of the bed. The only way to watch was to sit in uncomfortable Queen Anne-style upright chairs.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beautiful, classy hotel. One of the best in NYC."
Very nice stay. The hotel provided a great room with all the little things for a great experience.Genuine Expedia guest review
Its a great hotel with great service. My only complaint is,their price for meals ordered in the room or the cost of breakfast is too high compared to similar quality hotels in New York.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

The Plaza has always been a great hotel, but since the renovation, it is spectacular. The rooms are luxurious, including the bathrooms. The staff is very attentive and helpful. "Across the street to Central Park"
Just wanted to see what it would be like here. Was a little disappointed on arrival. The most expensive room I have ever booked wasn't ready at the guaranteed check-in time. We were an hour early and check-in was guaranteed by 3. At 3.15 I had to let them know so they gave us a room and apology but nothing extra. Looked like a lot of others were waiting […] also. "Always the best at The Plaza"
The Plaza was beautiful and clean. The service was great. I'm never disappointed when we stay here. "Hotel under construction remodeling/very noisy"
If a hotel is under construction/remodeling or maintenance I think guests should be informed of this upon booking. I payed $1,000 a night, flew in from Taiwan, had jet lag, wanted to rest, and from early on in the morning hammering noises could be heard. The window blinds could not be let up because there were men right outside the windows.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very convenient to everything uptown"
We were there a year ago and the entire oproperty was covered in scaffolding. This year - no change. It distracts somewhat from the overall imipression of the hotel. I don't think the hotel exudes its former opulance, but still a nice place to stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Plaza Hotel NYC"
It was a nice hotel. You pay for the nice. Excellent service. Had small issues with technology in the room....the phone chimed every 3 minutes, flashed lights, and presented the message "upgrading firmware - load failure" starting at 7am.....this was only solved by disabling the phone which made reporting the issue impossible from the room. Construction […] noise would have been a big deal if we had planned on sleeping in especially If I was focused on how much I was paying for the room......it would have been unacceptible at a Holiday Inn at a fifth the price, but we were out of hte room most of the time. The construction had the windows covered in scaffolding and a mesh, that when viewed from outside the hotel, had an image on it that resembled the hotel......to hide the construction appearance. The somewhat cheesey streaming of the "Great Gatsby" trailer on the room tv everytime you turned it on served to highlight that the hotel was featured in the film, but made me consider how toursity the hotel was for the money. Would most five star hotels want to highlight that ? Pleasant experice overall. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Felt like Eloise"
Of the hotels I have stayed at in New York, this one was by far the most beautiful--a historic hotel with all the charms of yesteryear. The facade is undergoing maintenance, so I wouldn't pay for a room with a view. The noise level was never an issue. At one point, the elevators stopped working for an hour. The delay did create an issue for me, but […] the hotel mitigated it. I stayed in a deluxe room. The rooms are gorgeous. The bathrooms are large and modernly layed out. The Fitzgerald afternoon tea service in the Palm Court is not to be missed. The Champagne bar and the Food Hall are also wonderful. The Plaza has no proper dining option and room service is not up to Fairmont standards. The location is perfect and very convenient. There were always many tourists in and around the hotel (some rather uncouth), however, they were never more than a minor inconvenience, and I cannot blame them for wanting to admire the beautiful landmark. The Plaza has been a muse for many works of literature from the Eloise series to Fitgerald's The Great Gatsby. The plaza embraces this through the Fitzgerald tea, the Gatsby cocktail and the Eloise menu selections. By far the most impressive thing about my stay (as is the same with all my Fairmont stays minus Banff Springs) was the impeccable service. You will not find better service at another hotel in New York. I strongly suggest staying at the Plaza hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We arrived at The Plaza at 11:30am following our arrival from the airport, however our suite wasn't ready yet. In fact, we didn't get into our room until after 4pm, which foiled some of our daytime plans. That being said, the staff was very gracious, offering complimentary cocktails as well as complimentary breakfast the following morning. Upon entering […] our room, we also noticed that it was an upgrade from the original suite we chose. Needless to say, they more than made up for the time we lost. The hotel was gorgeous and as classic as we expected. We were in the Edwardian Suite, which was exceptionally spacious, clean, and regal. My husband was obsessed with being able to control the room (lights, a/c etc.) via an i-pad. It was quite the romantic place to spend our anniversary. One of the staff members, Boon, was especially attentive to us during check-in and did his job explicably. It was nice being right across from Central Park, being able to take a morning stroll after breakfast. The meals will cost you a pretty penny if you choose to dine in the hotel but, that's to be expected. I wouldn't hesitate to stay at The Plaza- in fact, my husband and I will probably make it an anniversary tradition! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Terrible experience at the Plaza"
Restaurant staff have horrible attitudes and you will never hear the word THANK YOU after you pay your bill. 1 bathroom in the Hotel and its always dirty and smells. I had one suite and two rooms for 2 weeks and one day before check-out, I asked for 1 hour extension. They refused and the next day I had the head house keeping knocking on my door at 12 […] asking when am leaving. The new laundry clothes are all wrinkled when they deliver them. They even wrongly delivered clothes to our room and we told them it belongs to someone else. When we checked-out the clothes were still there since a week. Even some of the Hotel staff admitted the management is a complete failure. This hotel is lightening years behind the Likes of Fourseasons or the St. Regis. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Classic NYC - Under Construction"
Staying at a luxury property like the Plaza should be a real treat. Sure, the staff was friendly, the room was very nice, and the location was perfect, however for the price paid for this room, I could only feel disappointed in my stay. When you plan to stay at a first class property, you know in advance everything is going to be expensive - and it […] was. I have no problem paying for first class - and even expect to be shocked sometimes. The Plaza pushed this to new levels - as I paid $52 for bottled water and a slice of cheesecake via room service. Sure there were NY City taxes, sure the built in delivery charge of $8 was steep, and sure the gratuity I left was not too small, but the cheesecake wasn't very good, and the water was warm. Beyond the pricing, nowhere on the plaza website (which has many broken links) does it mention the entire building is covered in scaffolding. So much so - they wrap the building in a canvas with an image of what the plaza must have looked like. Much of New York seems to be under scaffolding - and as a guest, the city has covered up its assets with a mask of construction. Sidewalks are narrowed - and - well - that's just the city I guess. Because of the location, tourists flocking to central park are abundant outside the front door. Perhaps frustrated by this, the door man could almost be snotty when asking for a cab – let alone the promised hotel car. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

the Plaza doesn't have the best view on the hotel side of the property -- you see a slice of the park-- but it's lovely and the room is spacious and the bathroom is an older style, with the shower in the bathtub, but it's done well and there's plenty of room to stretch out in.
