This hotel location is fantastic, especially considering the price in comparison to other downtown hotels. The room itself was fine, nothing super fancy but nothing wrong with it either. I didn't really like the pillows, but I am picky in that category. The decor in the halls and elevators needed updating, but the rooms were nice enough. The staff seemed friendly and got us everything we needed. We have a 6 month old baby and they supplied a crib and high-chair at no charge. The hotel amenities were lacking, with no pool or hot tub. However, when you are right on Michigan Ave you really aren't going to waste time in the pool anyway!

I love the actual hotel, its rooms and location. Service in this hotel is seriously lacking in star quality. This is a large hotel yet every time that I have visited, the front desk is staffed by only 1 (sometimes 2). This produces a long wait (while plenty of doormen are "hanging" around). The coffee shop and concierge desk is equally staffed with "reserved" attitude. I've stayed in many upscale hotels and this one lacks the upscale service quality. I do not plan to stay there again.

We had a very nice corner room overlooking Michigan Avenue on the 10th floor, it was very nice! However, our check-in wasn't what I expected. We got there at noon and planned on storing our luggage until our room was available. When I checked in the lady at the desk told us that she would put a rush on our room but it wasn't ready yet. At 3:00 we came back, which is normal check-in time, and were told it still wasn't ready, they were waiting on comforters and we could not go up to the room until it was completly done being cleaned. We left again and at 4:00 we came back and were told it still wasn't ready, because they upgraded our room. I was pleased to find out they had done this because we had asked earlier about a roll away bed because we had an extra guest with us, but it was an hour after check-in and we were tired from walking around downtown. Finally a manager went up to check on the room and said it was ready. After that everything else was great! Be aware though that the valet parking here is $53, I have previously usually paid $24 at other hotels downtown.

Hotel is in an excellent location for shopping, restaurants, and beach. The room was very clean and the bedding was excellent; very comfortable. The giant flat screen TV was awesome. The phone in the room started beeping and flashing constantly around 1:30 AM and when I answered it...just crackling noises. Front desk offered to send someone up to look at it...but at 1:30 AM? I just unplugged it. Also, more than once, young kids were screaming in the hallways after 2:30 am. Sounded like they were right in the room with us. Not enjoyable.

This hotel has a great location and everyone working there was extremely nice and professional. My biggest complaint about the hotel was how noisy it was. Even on the 22nd floor I could hear loud street traffic all night, every night I was there, even with the fan turned all the way up. There seemed to be very little soundproofing as I could also hear noise in the halls and from next door rooms all night. The doors up and down the halls would slam when they close (as they are heavy I guess) and were extremely loud. I could hear neighbors having conversations next door in seemingly normal voices. I was very disappointed and thrown off by the noise (and I barely slept at all while there)- I have never encountered that problem in such a nice hotel. The room was clean except for several rose petals I found strewn about the bed area, leftover from a couple who stayed the night before I'm guessing- this kind of grossed me out. Otherwise, nice place, nice restaurant, nice staff.

As I expected, the bargain room was located directly opposite the elevators. It was also small - OK for us, but prior reviews we had read on the hotel are understandable. There were two large bottles of water available - Nestle's packing company - at the premium charge of $5.00 each. We chose to walk to a Walgreens and purchase our own water for a fraction of the cost. We were rather surprised to see the marble floor in the bathroom had spots of obvious dirt or body fluids of unknown variety. With the varied colorations of marble one would assume the staff did not see the spots - but I felt like wearing flip flops. Should have been cleaned.

Upon check in we were told we would have to wait 2 hours for a room with a king sized bed, which I had reserved 3 months in advance. as we were waiting in line 2 people in the line to our left both got rooms with king sized beds as we were arguing about out reservation. after we finally agreed to 2 double beds rather then standing in the lobby for 2 hours with our luggage we were CHARGED 100 dollars, not the card was authorized mind you, they TOOK 100 dollars off of a credit card and said if we didnt use it they would credit it back in 7 to 10 business days... TWO WEEKS. when we questioned this policy the attendant said "I assure you all hotels do this sir" when I informed her the ambassador hotel not that far away did not she had nothing to say. they charge for their internet, even in the business center. we called "express service" to get more condiments for our coffee and it never arrived... AT ALL. the entire time we were treated as second class citizens because we booked our room in advance and were apparently not as good as the people walking in paying walk-in rates. I will NEVER stay in a Westin hotel ever, they cost us a night out because we had to pay them 100 dollars for products we did not use and still dont have that money back.

I travel to Chicago often for business and leisure and try to stay at different hotels in the downtown area to compare price/svc/location/amenities. This Westin at the sale rate was great, but I would think twice about getting it at the regular rate. Don't get me wrong, Michigan Ave location for what I paid was a steal. But, it was way too busy with tourists, had way too loud street noise even 10 floors up, kids running down the hall, tub wouldn't hold water, plus water wasn't hot enough. And I got locked out of my room for a time because the closet door was insanely built next to the entry door so when it inadvertently opened when I left, I couldn't get back in and it took a lot of time by staff to open it. Its great for the person whose traveling and wants to be within walking distance from everything.

The hotel is in a very convenient location, the room was clean, and it was probably a good value for the price. However, The charge for parking is excessive to the extreme; more than one third the cost of the room. The amenities in the room were spartan; one towel and wash cloth per person, one bar of soap for everyone. There were no city, restaurant or visitors guides in the room. Nice TV. We checked in about 4:00pm and while sitting in our room we could hear the people in the next room talking, they were not yelling, just talking. We requested a room change and the hotel quickly accommodated us. The bed was very comfortable, and the view from our room was great. I would probably go back, but I would make some other arrangement for my car. And did I mention the parking is expensive?

My fiancee and I stayed at this hotel for a weekend in June 2009 for a wedding. We chose this particular hotel because of it's location on Michigan Avenue for shopping and sight seeing. We found the overall hotel experience to be great. The room decor is contemporary, comfortable, and you cannot beat the location! However, I have two issues: 1) the service left a little to be desired - I asked for a shower cap and two towels to be delivered to our room about one hour and ten minutes before we needed to be at the wedding. (I knew if I didn't wash my hair I could shave off 30 minutes of my usual 1 hour getting ready time - which would allow appx 40 minutes to fight traffic to get to the wedding.) I waited for 20 minutes for the items before I got so tired of waiting, I just got in the shower and washed my hair (of course, they came to the door not two seconds after I got my hair wet). We weren't too late to the wedding, but we definitely weren't on time. So, FYI: If you're in a hurry and you need something from hotel staff, give yourself some time. It'll take a little bit. 2) We didn't stay at the hotel that the bride and groom suggested we stay - but there were several other brides and grooms that suggested to thier guests that they stay at the Westin the same weekend we did. There was also a Honduras vs. USA soccer game that weekend. Needless to say, we heard A LOT of noise after midnight. Our next door neighbor got home around 4am and started hooting and hollering (I'm not kidding, it wasn't talking - it was "whooping") We finally called the front desk so that they could shut the guy up. FYI: Hallways/walls separating rooms are not very thick - if you're planning to get some sleep and it's a busy weekend - think again. Or Ask for a corner room.
