Haarlem Hotels

I took this hotel because of great rate from the site here. I was very pleased when I arrived - the room size was more to North American expectations. Other reviews had suggested that the hotel furnishings were dated. I would agree, but everything was in good condition. The bathroom was a little tired looking, but fine. The bed was very comfortable. I don't spend much time in hotel rooms when travelling, so it suited my needs very well. The only thing lacking was wireless internet. It is a cab ride from the train station, and then once there, a short walk to the other end of the centrum.

My travel plan was to base myself centrally to North Holland, and explore by train. For that purpose, this was a good choice for me. I was able to book it during a time that was well discounted, too. So the value was there for me. At full price, I think I might have felt I overpaid... Currently, the bus station area is under construction, so the Lion D'or offers no view. But it has a pleasant professional staff, comfortable and servicable rooms, and easy access to both trains and busses. It worked perfectly for me.

I arrived late, but that was no problem (other hotel booking websites have you ring by noon or lose your room). Hotel ws very nice, quiet, just half a block from the centre of Haarlem -- convenient to everything! Comfotable bed, plenty of desk and table space. And they were very helpful with my gluten-free dietary needs. About the only problem I experienced was a party on a Friday night (started about half past midnight, ended in the wee hours of the morning) outside my window, which was directly across from apartments/balconies. Certainly not the hotel's fault, but getting a room facing another direction might be a better plan in the future.

Joops Hotel is very centrally located close to lots of shops and restaurants, my favourite restaurant was called Scampi and is within walking distance of the hotel, it is run by a very nice couple and the desserts where some of the best that I have ever tasted.
