"Professional and Pleasant"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 26, 2013
I am a return guest to the Estherea. The hotel is quite enjoyable. One can tell that it is a labor of love on the part of the owner and staff. Some visitors from abroad my find the room size cramped but this is, in my opinion, more of an issue with European hotels and less with the Estherea. The Estherea is in a great location, it is beautifully decorated, the service is excellent and the staff is friendly and professional. I recommend it highly.
"Easy access to public transportation."Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 25, 2013
The staff was very friendly and helpful! My only suggestion would be to give more detailed instructions on how to arrive from the airport to the hotel. It is not included in the hotel shuttles and we had a hard time finding out how to take the public transportation. Ended up taking a taxi which cost €40. But it is worth the trouble. Very nice hotel and includes a nice breakfast. We would definitely stay again if visiting Amsterdam.
"Close to train station"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 25, 2013
Only stayed here 1 night - it was convenient and cheaper than the airport hotels for an overnight. Right acrosss the street from the central train station (5 minutes walk), 4.40 Euro and <30 minutes to the airport, lots of restauraunts in the area and plenty of shops - conevnient for luggage as well! Free wifi new TV's. Would stay here again.

"Excellent hotel, close to must-see sights"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 24, 2013
This hotel is good value for the money. The room was big, clean and we had a great view of the canal. The hotel is very close to tram stations, restaurants and super markets. We would definitely consider this hotel again.
"Good value; not luxurious but very serviceable"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 23, 2013
If you are looking for a comfortable, convenient place (2 minutes from the Dam, walking) that won't break the bank, this is it. Inside, the layout is quirky--especially on the higher floors, where the elevators don't quite reach. Modern it isn't (except for a vain attempt in the lobby), but it is cozy, gezellig, and cheap: a winning combination for me.

"Fix the shower!"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 23, 2013
All was fine, but the shower tended to overflow into the rest of the bathroom. That--and the slightly ridiculous breakfast price--are my only two caveats about this otherwise comfortable, well-appointed hotel with excellent service, right in one of the most convenient neighborhoods (walkable distance to all major points of interest ).

I stayed in the Hampshire on two occasions on a recent trip, 4 nights in all. I'm generally not fussy about hotels, and I had read reviews so was prepared for things like the carpet, but I was a bit shocked when I saw my first room - it was in the basement, next to the custodial laundry facilities. The carpet was filthy, and the heat had clearly not been on in there for a long, long time. I had to get someone to help me figure out how to turn it on. I saw perhaps 10 other guests in the hotel during my entire stay, so it didn't seem like the hotel was full. My 2nd time there I got a room on the 2nd floor which was even smaller, but a huge improvement. Carpet was in equally dire shape. It also seemed like every day, something was not working in the hotel - one morning the electricity was out in the dining area, another day the internet was out, I never saw anyone working the bar though the hotel said there was a nightly happy hour. Never any signage, and staff always seemed surprised when I asked what was going on. Breakfast was a bit expensive, but you can get it cheaper if you book ahead. Free coffee all the time, which is very nice. Location of the hotel is GREAT, price was great, I had no problem accessing the free wifi in either room, staff is accommodating but not particularly friendly. I would definitely stay here again, but people who expect a high degree of service or any amount of luxury would probably do better elsewhere.
