"Great vacation"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Jan 7, 2013
Great all-inclusive hotel. What makes this hotel special is the "animation staff" They'll leave you alone if that is what you want, but if you want entertainment, you have a bunch of friends for all kind of activities. And every night, they put on a first quality show, then the party continues at the disco. You don't have to ever leave the hotel (extremely safe, by the way)
"Beautiful, interesting, Friendly Sandos"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Jan 2, 2013
Overall a great place. Food good everywhere. Except Italian & snackbar, which were not nearly as good as the others. Bartenders varied in their strength &prep of drinks. Just ask for "mucho" alcohol if you like about a regular strength drink, & to blend extra, for ice drinks. Rooms are ok, cleaned well, but are in need of renovation soon, just some things are appearing worn/dated. Pools lots of fun, good availability of chairs. Beach very pretty, swimming just ok, rocky bottom, low visibility in the water. Snorkeling boat trip through Scuba Libre (snorkel hut etc. on the beach) Very good worth the $35 US. Lots to see & do at this resort, enough variety of shows, activities, restaurants to spend 2 weeks there without getting at all bored. Lots of interesting wildlife. Some bartenders are rude, just ignore it, they seem to fluctuate in their moods. Some are fantastic though too! Service at restaurants very good. If you tip nicely the first day & then sit in the same section of the buffet everyday, you can get Fantastic serice your entire stay. Overall good value for the money.

"great if youre on a budget"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Sep 20, 2012
Stayed here for only 2 nights, and although it is the least fancy of the other Riu hotels in the area, it is also the cheapest, so it makes sense. If you're trying to save money I would stay here because as a guest of Riu Lupita, you get access to use the facilities at the other fancier Rius, Tequila, Playacar and yucatan, which are all within walking distance, or a short shuttle bus drive. Playacar and yucatan have nicer, less crowded pools and have access to the beach , which is very nice and clean. you can also get drinks, breakfast and/or lunch at any of the 4 (Just not the Riu palace). The snack bar was okay, can hold you over till the next meal, and the buffet is better. nothing extrodinary, but good. I liked the breakfast buffet more than the dinner buffet. All the staff is super friendly and work hard to serve you, especially the bartenders and servers. The bed was a little hard, but not enough to disturb your sleep, plenty of alcohol/drinks in the mini fridge.

"GREAT EXPERIENCE!"Reviewed by Alf G of "Texas" on May 24, 2011
Don't be scared by other reviews, this is a great hotel, always kept flawlessly clean, staff is great, all services are perfect, in a great location, the beach is perfect there and seriously you walk less than 5 minutes from your room to get to the beach. Food in the buffet is ok, not the best I've had but it's also not bad. I think with this I'll tell you everything, next time I go to Playa del Carmen, I'll stay in the Azteca for sure.
