How to get to AkumalFlying into the region, the closest gateway to Akumal is Cancun International Airport. This is located just an hour or so from Akumal by car. Speaking of which, while many hotels operate buses to pick you up and drop you off, you'll probably want to look into hiring a car while you're here. Particularly if you want to explore the region as well as sunbathe. On the other hand, if you intend to only travel a little here and there, you can make use of taxis or the very cost-effective colectivos. These are vans that operate along the coast and can whisk you from beach to beach. They can be cramped and noisy, but that's all part of the experience.
