Cozumel Hotels

Dive into the sparkling clear water of the Caribbean Sea as you play in water parks along the beautiful beach, shop for souvenirs in tourist shops on bustling promenades, and race out to sea on twin-hulled catamarans to snorkel the vivid tropical reefs of Mexico’s eastern coastline. Cozumel is a holiday paradise, where sparkling seas, soft beaches, and lively bars create the perfect holiday atmosphere. Chill out on comfortable loungers at hectic beaches, or discover your own private paradise on hidden coves around the island shore.

Things to see

Paradise Beach might be the sort of name you’d expect to be given to an idyllic, golden sandy beach along the Mexican Riviera, but this location on the tropical island of Cozumel is a little different. It’s actually a beach resort, an aquatic adventure playground for adults and children alike, filled with inflatable slides and climbing frames that float in the calm bay, idyllic spas and nature reserves, and sunken restaurants and bars at the tip of a tiny wooden pier. There’s more watery fun at the Chankanaab National Park, although this time everything’s focused on nature. Pretty turquoise lagoons are set against the vivid green jungle, rocky outcrops are covered with curious pools of seawater, and you can dive or snorkel its protected reefs, meeting fishy inhabitants, and discovering wild vegetation in its natural habitat. Get away to somewhere less commercial on the sands of Palancar Beach. A wall of leafy palm trees grazes the edge of the beach, a few welcoming bars dot along the curve of the bay, and yachts pass peacefully on the horizon as you relax and soak up the sun.

Hotels in Cozumel

There are some simply fantastic hotels in Cozumel, from pricey but elegant luxury hotels with lagoon-style swimming pools, private spas, and beach bars, to discount hotels with a homely feel, kitchenettes and dining facilities, and complimentary breakfast on the al fresco terrace. Cozumel is a really commercial area, and a high standard of accommodation isn’t hard to find. Sprawling resorts with lush, landscaped gardens dot along the shoreline of the island, taking advantage of private beach access and close proximity to the tourist shops in town.

Where to stay

The island of Cozumel only has one town, San Miguel, located on the northeastern shoreline overlooking Mexico’s Playa del Carmen. It’s a packed jumble of crowded, narrow streets, where homes are whitewashed or painted in vivid colors, bars are advertised by cheap plastic garden furniture and wonky parasols, and a few mainstream shops compete with tourist outlets the closer you are to the beach. Most hotels in Cozumel are along this stretch of town, or lined up along the Avenue General Rafael E Melgar that runs the coastal route towards the southern tip of this picturesque island.

How to get to Cozumel

Cozumel has its own airport, the Cozumel International Airport, on the edge of San Miguel town. It makes it very handy for onward transportation to hotels, and if your chosen resort doesn’t run an airport transfer service, as many of them do, you’ll find taxis are relatively cheap. On the other hand, resorts in the town of San Miguel itself will be within walking distance, letting you save cash completely if you don’t mind carting your luggage through the streets. Once in the town, everywhere is a short stroll from most major resorts.
