"Charming colonial hotel"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 24, 2013
I had a great time in Mérida, in large part thanks to Misión de Fray Diego Hotel. The hotel is in a beautiful colonial building with lots of architectural details, in contrast with the decor of the rooms, which was understated, befitting the the original purpose of the building (a monastery?). The room was decent in size. I found the bathroom a little bit uncomfortable as there was no counter space at all, so I had to put my toiletries on the sink, or on the floor, or on the toilet. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious, except that, for my taste, the chef was a little bit on the generous side with the salt. The hotel is 2 blocks from the main square on a not-very-well-lit street. However, I soon found Mérida is a very safe city.
"Charming Hotel with Uncomfortable Bed"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 24, 2013
I love hotels like this just as I loved waking up each morning to the other guests eating brekfast on the terrace. Beds are typical of non-high end ones in Mexico, which is to say not of the greatest comfort, but I could deal. Internet was also spotty, but I could deal with that too. So affordable and I would never want to stay in any other area in Merida. This is where the action is if you are a tourist.
"Great Location and Atmosphere!"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 19, 2013
Hotel Caribe gets an "A" for atmosphere. Our room and bathroom were tiny. Bed was OK. Our room was on the end on the top floor. The view was spectacular, the tiny pool unswimmable, but it was very pleasant on the patio. The patio furniture needed a good cleaning or replacement. Although there was no elevator, a staff member was available to carry bags upstairs. We did not eat at the hotel, but we heard that the food had improved recently.
"Great place by central Merida"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 1, 2013
My third time at the hotel, they have made some minor improvements and continue to. As an old hacienda there are many little cosmetic things to stay on top of. A remodel of the bar would be appreciated but overall very friendly staff and good food. Will return in a couple months!
"Good value for the price!"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Jan 30, 2013
Hotel is good...rooms are comfortable...b-fast is decent...and close to the downtown attractions. You get what you pay for. I would stay again of I am short of money.
"Best place in Merida"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Jan 28, 2013
We loved our stay here. It was quiet, the guests were friendly, and the staff was perfect. It's hard to find a place in Merida with such charm PLUS a kitchen. Do yourself a favor and book this hotel for your trip. Try to book one of the 'Deluxe 2 double bed' rooms - they're upstairs and are really quiet.
"Historic building hotel"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Jan 28, 2013
Fantastic little hotel in a historic old building right next to the Cathedral and main plaza. Surrounded by restaurant, bars and shops in the historic district. If what you are looking for is to experience Merida's traditional downtown stay without the mayor international hotel chains, this is the place to stay. Everything is walking distance, magnificent view of the Cathedral towers from the patio bar. Very friendly staff and breakfast is delicious. The only thing that i could think of on the down side was that the shower had some funky smell coming out of the drain. But being a 200 year old building i guess its part of it.
"Overall my stay was fine"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Jan 25, 2013
Other than the Ice Machine being broken on my floor the hotel was fine. Service was good from room service and staff was polite and helpful.
"6th stay"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Nov 20, 2012
In the past 2 years offer a quiet, clean, well priced hotel within walking distance of Centro.
"Close to Convention Center"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Aug 29, 2012
Was OK, but will not stay there again. Asked twice for help with the in room safe and no one ever showed. They have NO wash cloths or hand towels in the bath -- but the hot water is plentiful -- in fact even if you turn on the cold you get hot. Located on a major road - noisy and no place to take a walk.
