The hotel overall was great. I had adjoining rooms and the one with the king bed was fine. I can see how some one may complain about the one with the double beds since there is no room in between the two. It wasn't an issue for me. I didnt spend that much time in the room. Food was good. A little bland but nothing a little salt can't fix. I had to ask for towels but when I did they were prompt about it and no questions asked. The stay was enjoyable and relaxing. Be open minded and flexible and you won't be disappointed.
"staff is amazing!"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 25, 2013
We were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary. upon our arrival we were greeted with congratulations and many other nice surprises followed. Our conseierge Raul was amazing. He took the time to chat with us and arrange for our every want or need to make our vacation amazing. We loved the the restaraunts especially the japanese one. We also took advantage of the 24 hour room service. The staff would come in and set the table for us and the presentation was always special. we found plent to do inside and outside of the hotel. lots of shopping and activities.

The resort was nice and the service was great, especially of the wait staff and housekeeping. The hotel was clean and the food was good. The spa was very nice.

"Easy walk from main clubs and bars"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 11, 2013
The hotel is simple, has what you need. We were in Tower B and told that this was the recently renovated building. The bathroom did look renovated except for the mirror, which had huge spots on it - like they forgot to change it once they finished. The lighting was not great in the bathroom (for makeup) and there were no mirrors in the actual room - but this was the case at the next hotel I stayed in at Playa del Carmen too, so maybe thats a Mexico thing. The shower was hot, water pressure was great, we had a problem with the AC and someone was up in 20 minutes to fix it (and did fix it). You get a discount at the breakfast buffet by the beach - $20 total for me and my boyfriend. The weekend we went the beach chairs were not swarmed and we were able to get beach chairs with an umbrella at 11am. We did not do the AI package, and I would not recommend it - there are great places to eat and drink for cheap within blocks in literally every direction. We paid about $180/night but would not pay more than $150 a night to stay here again.
"Perfect all-inclusive girls getaway"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Jan 30, 2013
Just got back from a stay at Sunset Royal and I want to return already! Despite a pretty full hotel, Sergio at check in helped find my friends and I two rooms on the same floor, with ocean views! Ever and Luis, our amazing bartenders, made delicious margaritas (and as they were unlimited, we made very good friends with them haha). The service from everyone, including our new friend Heidi, was consistently great (although I'm sure it helped that I mainly spoke to them in Spanish...but they do speak very good English). The LOCATION was great - its in the hotel zone but very close down to the bars/clubs, so we walked to Senor Frogs one night, and could have walked to/from the clubs if we wanted to. The hotel does run a nightly shuttle TO the clubs, but since its only a one-way ride, it made it convenient that we were so close. There is also a pharmacy in walking distance (for the morning aspirin and after-sun aloe). Even though we were not RCI owners, we were always treated well. The only reasons I didn't give a 5 star overall rating are 1) the food, while good, is not great...buffet is typical but didn't blow us away, and 2) there is no swim-up bar! But since the service is so great, there's really no need. For a great, inexpensive all inclusive, GO HERE!!!
