The views of the Medina are beautiful, especially at night. The beautiful and traditional Moroccan decor was exceptional. Being a bit out of city was nice after a long day seeing the wonderful city of Fez and a welcoming place to relax and have tea on the balcony or swim in the beautiful pool. Fez is not to be missed during a trip to Morocco and Les Merinides is a great place to stay!
"Ryad Alya the perfect place to stay in Fez!"

The ryad itself is beautiful with lovely tile and intricate woodwork. The courtyard is filled with trees and elegant furnishings. Every area in the Ryad that we saw was spotless day and night. Our room was lovely and the bathroom very modern and attractive. All of the staff members were friendly and helpful without being overbearing. The night caretaker Fatah, who also served breakfast in the morning, was charming and spoke fluent English and French (in addition to Arabic) and was a joy to be around!! He was most helpful in answering questions about the local sites and history of the Ryad. We would highly recommend Ryad Alya to anyone visiting Fez.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Palais Jamai from the moment we walked in...guests are received with the utmost hospitality, and even when we requested late checkout, the response was "Of course, you deserve it." My only minor complaint is that the bar staff was a bit slow and inattentive, but the hotel was incredibly empty and they seemed understaffed, so I can forgive it.
"Nice Hotel Outside of the Medina"

A beautiful clean hotel. We walked to the medina most days but our taxi was about 10-15 MAD. The pool was nice and refreshing, with towels and lounge chairs if you asked. The breakfast was good, one day there was a woman cooking fresh buttered flat bread and the soup was very good. I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Fez.

Dar Bensouda is a truly amazing place, and a perfect place to stay in the amazing city which is Fez. If you are visiting Fez for the colorful atmosphere and the amazing architecture, you will see places like the Madersa Bou Inania, with the stucco ornamentation and exquisite tilework characteristic of the best of Islamic decorative arts, and then you will go back to your own room in a part of a mansion that references the same architectural and decorative tradition. I felt like I was sleeping in a museum, or a castle. It was beautifully appointed, well-maintained and the staff and service were uniformly excellent. Also, while the atmosphere was redolent of Arabic history and perfectly suited to its location in the medina, the riad itself offered a peaceful, quiet respite from the bustle and crowds just outside. I highly recommend Riad Dar Bensouda!
One caution: it was very difficult for us to find. Get the best map of the medina you can find, and be prepared to contact the riad directly for directions.

The hotel is very dirty. Bath rooms are falling apart with dirty floors. When we reached there, there was no one on the reception except a cleaning lady. She put us on the phone with the owner and he promised that he will be there in one hour but he did not show up till 7 AM next day. Looks like the hotel is unattended most of the times. This hotel desereve only ONE STAR or less.
