"Awesome hotel"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 25, 2013
It is a very nice hotel to stay in while visiting Kyoto. Highly recommended! I will definitely stay here again for my next visiting.
"Great location, no fuss"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 23, 2013
It was our first time at the Royal Park but second time in Kyoto. Really great location. Right off Kawaramachi on Sanjo. Lots of buses and also a very short walk to both Sanjo subway stations (just down the street on other side of bridge). Karasuma is also only 1 big ave away from Kawaramachi (Citibank is on Kawarasuma and Shijo; lots of buses stop around there too and it is very walkable to Royal Park even with a stroller). On rainy days, Teramachi (covered arcade) is also just 1/2 short block away, and leads directly to Nishiki Market. Shinshindo Boulangerie downstairs makes a great variety of delicious pastries and sandwiches for takeouts, and is a great cafe for sit down service. Hotel rooms are not big. Many face the back alley, so it was hard to tell if it's morning or not yet. Not much space to hang clothes or store bulky luggages. We traveled with a 2 year old and a stroller. It was very comfortable for all of us, but we made an effort to stay organized so our child has enough space to play.
"Beautiful European styled Hotel"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 22, 2013
Had a very pleasant stay at Monterey Kyoto - it's a gorgeous European styled hotel. The rooms are comfortable and relatively big by Japanese standards. Hotel staff was very helpful in showing us where to go and which bus to take. They even had bus/metro passes handy to sell, which was very convenient. Great hotel.
"Good location"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 15, 2013
I liked the hotel; right next to a great shopping street. Also, not too far from some great sightseeing. I would return for my next visit.
"Convenient location"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 13, 2013
The hotel is directly across from Kyoto Station, making it extremely convenient, especially if you have been traveling for a long time. The sign for the hotel is not large, however, but not difficult to find. The staff is polite and speaks enough English to communicate, and is very helpful with directions. Buses are available across the street to virtually any location in the area. The hotel is clean, though the rooms are small (as is typical in Japan). We were pleasantly surprised to have strong wifi in our room. We were disappointed that there was no Japanese bath.
"Great location"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 11, 2013
Great location near the intersection of the two main subway lines. Hard to find. It is on a small street that's one street over from the main drag (NE side of the intersection). The hotel is tucked in behind another one, so it's fairly quiet. Rooms are clean, but with older furnishings (pink bathroom), and the bed is extremely hard. Why can't hotels invest in pillowtop mattresses? No wifi in the room, so you have to go to the public computer area. Service is friendly. Laundry facilities onsite. A few convenience stores nearby, but neighborhood is uninspiring. The easy access to the subway is great, because it whisks you to more interesting parts of the city in a short time.
"Great but one negative"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 6, 2013
It was a great and beautiful hotel but the shower water kept going from hot to cold on its own. I only stayed in Kyoto for one night

"Would most certainly stay again"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 2, 2013
We visited Kyoto after spending time in Tokyo. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from Kyoto station - the central hub from which you can take any of the JR lines, the subway line, and the Shinkansen. The neighborhood isn't particularly ideal for sites and restaurants, however the neighborhoods you'll want to visit are easily accessible, be it via Gojo station (right on the hotel block) or by foot (15-25 minutes walking) if the weather permits. The hotel staff was extremely professional and friendly, suggesting sites around the city worth visiting, circling them on the city map, and offering suggestions for dinner should we need them. The room was spectacular! It combined modern touches and detail while maintaining traditional Japanese style. The bed was enormous! It was essentially 2 full sized beds pushed flush together. The bathroom had a spacious shower and wooden box tub. The toilet is separate from the bathroom, allowing for privacy. There is a separate sitting area where shoes should not be worn, a spacious table, and very large flat screen TV. We would watch TV to wind down before bed, but unfortunately you can only find English on CNN after midnight. Otherwise, all of the stations are in Japanese. But that of course is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things! Fantastic experience. Our favorite hotel of the 8 we've stayed in on our trip!
