Had a great stay at a traditional ryokan. Wonderful customer service and conveniently located in the middle of Kyoto.

BE SURE TO KNOW THAT YOU ARE STAYING IN A TRADITIONAL JAPANESE INN. FOR WESTERNERS, ONE NIGHT IS ENOUGH. BUT THE EXPERIENCE IS GREAT.
"one big block from Kyoto station"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Nov 10, 2012
This is not a regular hotel, but rather more like a hostel, which is fine with us. There was a little dirt under a bed, but other than that everything was serviceable and clean, and we had clean towels every day. If you are looking for five star treatment this is not the place for you, but if you want reasonable accommodations and possibly to meet interesting folks from other countries in the lobby with shared kitchen, this place is great. The young managers were friendly, helpful and accommodating.

I was very satisfied with the service but alarmed at the condition of the hotel and I did not think the online photos were representative of the hotel. We choose to leave one day early in part due to the cost relative to the comfort.
"Nice Hotel, close to the center"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Jul 23, 2012
The Hotel condition and accommodation are not exceptional, but the location is great. There is also a plus there is a Japanese public bath inside the hotel, and you have to try that, this is so fun. Your can also wander in the hotel in Yukata, which is also fun.
"A true local experience"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Jul 18, 2012
Overall, we enjoyed our stay here. It was a little hard to find (the taxi drivers all needed a map. It was close to Nijo Castle and Kyoto train station so that was very convenient. It is within walking distance of many shops and restaurants, and Kyoto Tower. On the downside, I agree with several other reviewers, the futons are very uncomfortable - and we like a firm bed. The door frames are low and the bathroom small but this is to be expected and was not a problem for us. Traffic noise can occasionally be heard but it didn't bother us too much. The inn is very clean. The hostess/owner is very gracious and friendly but speaks no English. It gave us a chance to use our Japanese and it worked out. There are 2 staff that speak enough English to get by if needed. One thing to note is the curfew (10pm) but this was not an issue for us. Check in is fairly late (4pm) so we just dropped off our bags and came back when we had finished site seeing for the day. They provide tea and a tea set in the room but that's it as far as snacks and drinks. Again, a very good experience overall. We got a true local feel and enjoyed our stay. If you do stay here, be sure to have the ryokan information (with phone number) for the taxi drivers.

"Station Ryokan Seiki is a great Japan experience"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Dec 27, 2011
Staying at the Ryokan was what I hoped it would be, a true Japanese style experience. You get the Ryokan experience, including leaving your shoes at the door, but get TV, private bath and wifi. Incredible. Location is good, not great. It is hard to get to that side of Kyoto train station and it is between metro stations. But once you get there, getting around is easy. They were friendly and I was happy I chose to stay there.
