"Hotel good Viareggio less so"
by K Katrina. in Leeds
Hotel was very good-location. Facilities reasonable. Swimming pool was clean and there is a lifeguard. Sunbeds were always available near the pool without reserving them, but again early June. Hotel supplies towels so no need to bring your own. Breakfast good choice-continental and some cooked items although these weren't as nice as other cooked breakfasts I've had. Room clean with air con which worked well. Hotel was a bit stingy on giving clean bathmats and towels and replacement toileteries-but easily rectified if asked for. Viareggio itself is a bit of an odd place-mainly full of designer shops which were on the whole unaffordable.! Eating out was expensive and quality of food was not that high in my opinion. We had one evening meal in the hotel which was of high quality compared to eating out. Best to go half board in the hotel as the local eateries are not up to much and the prices are very high. I'm not sure I would recommend Viarregio for older children-smaller children will be OK. Overall we spent a week in this hotel and I think the quality was excellent. There are plenty of local sightseeing trips you can do and use the hotel as a base. Beach very clean but there are regulations on what you can and can't do which appear to be very strict-eg ball games are not allowed and even sandcastles have to be knocked down afterwards which to me seems a bit over the top!! Beach has lots of life guards all along it. Overall a good holiday.” 14/06/2008
