Easily the best hotel I have ever stayed in. I booked this as it was close to the Aldwych theatre, (it was next door) and I couldnt find ANY faults with it. The pianist in reception makes for a classic atmosphere. The reception staff couldnt do enough to help, same with the concierge. The room was spacious, clean, comfortable and generally stunning. I cannot speak highly enough of this hotel, I will definitely be staying here again!”
The hotel was located in Soho and we had access to pubs, restaurants and theatres on the doorstep. We felt safe at all times in the area . The taxi ride from Euston by cab was very reasonable and worthwhile when dealing with suitcases. Once in the hotel we used the tube system for all our visits and tottenham court rd station is five mins walk from the hotel. We were able to reach all our chosen attractions form there. The hotel itself is as described, the stairs slope to one side and so did the room but that just added to the quaintness of the hotel. The walls were panelled and the bed had a carved headboard and was extremely comfy. The only negative thing I have to say is that there are no tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms and therefore you are dependent upon room service. We decided to order in breakfast which I originally thought was expensive but it was very nice. I ordered tea with a bacon baguette and the tea made practically four cups and the bacon baguette was large with lots of bacon - delicious orange juice was also included in the price. I would recommend the breakfast. All in all we had a fabulous 4 night stay and I would definitely go back.”
The rooms are beautifully restored but the equivalent room at Claridge's is larger. The Deluxe King for example has no sitting area.”
I was in London on business, six months pregnant. My husband flew over for the last few days of my stay to enjoy a last "pre baby" trip. Claridge's was magnificent - worth every penny. The staff was unpretentious to Americans, which I appreciated - Claridge's has a rich history of housing royalty from other nations in WWII, Churchill post WWII, and I had had some concern that they would prefer English and Euro clientele. Not the case at all. That said, don't wear touristy clothes there - casual is fine but should be nice. The staff was warm, welcoming. The rooms were comfortable, lovely. Room service was twice daily, which meant returning from dinner to a freshened room. Bathtub took a while to figure out, with the help of a maid, but baths were luxurious in deep tub. Book high tea well in advance of your trip - was a highlight. Also ate at Gordon Ramsay's restaurant - overrated in my opinion. Staff almost harassed me because I had not cleaned my plate after every tasting menu course - perhaps they were trying to be nice to make sure that I got something that I liked, but it was almost patronizing as the waiter and later maitre'd asked if i didn't like it. The truth is I'm pregnant and get full fast - but their calling attention to it made me uncomfortable. Would have preferred (and did later) a much more enjoyable time three blocks over at La Genova on N. Audley St. When I return to London, I will indeed book Claridge's again. Wonderful location, staff and facilities.”
My wife and I spent five nights here while on vacation. We had an excellent stay. Our only disappointment was the price of laundry service. In the second week of our travels, we needed a better option for clean clothes. The location to the Underground and theatres set us up for all of our week’s adventures. We highly recommend this hotel.”
