Very nice hotel. Nice mix of old and new. Wish they had free Internet, though. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful.

"friendly accomodations"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Sep 18, 2012
The Brentwood was an enjoyable B&B experience. The family who own and run the place welcome you like family and tend to your every need. The rooms are cozy and small as you would expect. Clean linens and towels provided daily was a nice touch. Daily breakfast providedon site was another plus.A big thank you to Sylvia, Natalie and Patrick and all of your friendly staff for an unforgettable experience. We will be recommending the Brentwood B&B to our friends. About a 10 minute walk to old town.
"Lovely and tasteful!"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Aug 24, 2012
I stayed at the Barrington House for one night with a girlfriend. We were so in love with the room, the neighborhood, and the entire town of York that we wish we had stayed a week! The staff were very friendly and helpful and offered us wonderful advice on sites and tours in town. We took their advice on a Ghost Walk Tour and were so extatically pleased!! What fun, and amazing stories; not to mention the tour guide was just wonderful. We were so happy to have gotten this recommendation from the hotel owners or we may not have even known about it! The room was lovely and so personal. Bed was comfortable and the house was very quiet even with full rooms. The breakfast was great too! Personal service, and great food with lots to choose from for a smaller hotel. I would love to stay here again someday. I highly recommend this establishment to anyone looking for a quiet place to stay with an at-home atmousphere! Thank you so much Barrington House!!!
"Great location, small but fit the bill"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Jul 26, 2012
This is a bed and breakfast very close to the York train station and also very close to the town center -- a great combination! It's a short (although slightly awkward) walk from the train station. It involves hefting one's luggage up and down some stairs to cross a busy street on a bridge. I'm sure there's a less direct way to do it if stairs won't work for you. Then it's just a short few blocks to the town center, close to York Minster and other things on the north end of town. Incredibly easy to get to town, and then very quiet in the guest house! Huge breakfast (in the usual English salty tradition -- lots of eggs and meat, no sweets like pancakes) and friendly staff. The room was small and a bit shabby but very clean, same for the bathroom -- tiny with old noisy plumbing but that just added to the vibe. Not great for hanging around in the room or hotel (no real common area except the dining area) but great if you're going to be in town all day!
"Not close to the rail station"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 30, 2012
My priority in chosing a hotel is the proximity to rail travel, your reprsenitive assured me it was within close walking distance. It is not and cost extensive addition costs for cab fare, which as you know is rather expensive in GB

This is one of the top 3 B&Bs (of 100+) I've visited over the years in the U.K. Many thoughtful touches on top of basic comfort and cleanliness. Al and Les love York and share their knowledge of the town and its history with their guests. You'll enjoy the fresh-baked bread every monring with a wonderful breakfast to go with it.
"Great for families"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Apr 12, 2012

"Definitely will be back"Reviewed by Mary Jane M of "NJ" on Oct 27, 2011
This hotel was wonderful. The room was beautiful and the food was great. Unfortunately we were only here for one night but we definitely will be back.
