"5 Star from beginning to end!"

The Howbeck is perfect in every way - from the four-poster bed to the amazing breakfast to the complimentary bedside sherry - you can't ask for more. The staff is delightful and very helpful, making dinner arrangements and providing weary travellers with tea in the lounge. The facility is very well-kept and beautiful. There are many properties to choose from but I'd stay at the Howbeck again in a heart-beat.
"Too Many Steps"

Room was basic but there were 21 steps from the street to the entrance and an additional 30 steps to our room--hostess said, "You feel as if you have walked to heaven." That is not what we felt. Breakfasts were good and hostess suggested excellent restaurants. Location was quite convenient for train station and restaurants. We couldn't use the lovely garden due to rainy weather.

Pleasant and comfortable describe our five day stay.
The hosts were helpful and gave use great suggestions for dining out. Breakfast was delicious.
The Hotel is a little too distant from town centres for less able people to walk, but a very easy drive.

Paul and Marion were very, very accomodating hosts. The room I had was large, comfortable, and nicely decorated. Oldfields House is convienently located, about a half-mile (more or less) from the Windemere Rail Station and another half-mile (more or less) from Bowness, the departure point for cruises of Lake Windemere. Highly recommended.

It has been a long time since I stayed in a "guest house" and it showed! I was not expecting a room pristinely redecorated with cable TV and internet and marvelous cooked breakfasts as bonuses, so what a nice surprise. Definitely recommended!
