"Puerta del Sol- Caters to Both Gay & Non-Gay"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 16, 2013
You will find Puetra del Sol Hostel and Gay Hostel Puerta del Sol is the same hostel, they want to show they cater to the Gay community. But they are not in the Gay area, which is on the other side of Gran Via. The hostel is on the Plaza Puerta del Sol within meters of the Sol Metro station. You are located in the heart of the Madrid. While the center was always busy, and could be loud at times, I found the double pane windows and black out shutters to block most noise, other the sirens from police cars I think you would hear from most any room you stay in Madrid. The breakfast they offer is basic- coffee, OJ, tea, corn flakes, white bread, ham and cheese. They served coffee, tea and coco 24/7. While the internet can be slow or busy at times, there are several different connections, and they all share the same password, so just find a connection with a stronger signal. The rooms are basic and bigger than others, bathroom is plain not fancy, shower is small, with shower curtain. I found the staff friendly and willing to help. Daily housekeeping was provided. For the week-end, the room rates were reasonable, especially when others were charging 2x more and would drop them on week-day. The hostel offers basic accommodation and is prime location, if you want some more elegant or fancy be ready to pay 2x to 3x the price especially on the week-ends.
"Clean & Comfortable"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 10, 2013
Stayed overnight on a layover, rooms were spotlessly clean & very comfortable, staff was friendly & helpful. Free airport shuttle was a great bonus.
"Excellent location"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 8, 2013
Lost power during stay couple of times but it was back in few minutes. I believe it was the hotel and not the building or neighborhood. However, its location was more important to me so I did not mind.

"Incredible Location - Plaza Mayor!!"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Dec 30, 2012
We feel so lucky to have stumbled across this Hostal. It is directly north of Plaza Mayor, one block south of the Opera, and walking distance to everything. Literally, it is one mile or less to the train station, Reina Sofia museum, the Prado, Parque del Retiro, or Goya's tomb. We took a cab one time, and it was 5 EURO. The rooms are clean and have everything you need. The private bathroom was great, though be advised the shower is small. I am a normal sized guy I think at 6 feet tallish and the shower was tight. Be forwarned. Everything else was great, balcony overlooking the street, incredibly friendly staff, perfect. We arrived in Madrid way before checkin and they hurried and got us a room ready even by 1p. It was great. If you're worried about people not speaking English, then study up on at least basic terms. We speak enough Spanish and did just fine, but if that type of thing makes you nervous know before you go that they don't speak English. Shouldn't dissuade you one bit!! Stayed September 2012
"Great Value for Location"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Dec 22, 2012
This hostel serves the traveler who is looking for a central location in Madrid, a clean room and good service. Granted the rooms are a bit small, but the price is affordable. If you are looking for luxury, seek another location for your stay. My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights while touring Madrid, and it proved to be a good find. No complaints or suggestions for improvement. The staff was very attentive and gracious.
"Small but Fantastic"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Dec 14, 2012
The rooms are not very large, but a very well appointed and clean. Nicely designed hotel with friendly staff. Excellent location and great price for the area. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
