"Could not imagine a better hotel"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 19, 2013
For the price there could not possibly be a better hotel in terms of Location and quality of service. The rooms are updated, mini-bar, flat screen and nice bathrooms. The Internet is mediocre to slow likely to all the people downloading movies etc... etc.. but it is good enough to get your mail. It is right on Avenida Parallel and just a few meters from the underground stop. The staff is beyond friendly and helpful. The lobby bar has some nice drinks.
"great hotel, wonderful location, good price.."Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 3, 2013
The hotel was very good in all aspects. It doesn't have the magesty of other 5 star hotels but the service and quality is there. The location cannot be better, and in a safe and nice elegant area. One block away from Paseo de Gracia, two away from from Ramblas Catalans, and two from Diagonal. It is perfectly located to go anywhere in Barcelona. Two of Gaudi's masterpiece houses are walking distance (5 and 10 minutes away). The hop on/ hop off tourbus stop is 7 minutes away walking distance (at Paseo de Gracia in front of Gaudi's La Pedrera and Starbucks. Tons of coffee shops and good restaurants around.
"Love Axel"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Jan 28, 2013
My boyfriend and I stayed at the Barcelona Axel for a week's visit. I had stayed at the Axel property in Buenos Aires and loved it, so I wanted to give this hotel a try. We weren't disappointed. They run a great hotel. Location is absolutely perfect. Center of the city, in a GREAT neighborhood. Close to shopping, restaurants, metro, Las Ramblas, etc. Staff is efficient, knowledgeable, and makes terrific restaurant suggestions. (They never let us down! ) Room was clean, quiet, and stylish, although it would be nice if there was a little more room around the sink for a dop kit and "stuff"! If you can, upgrade to a superior room with a balcony. We did, and it was a nice addition to our stay. We never used the gym (we were there to eat tapas and enjoy sunshine). but we sure saw a lot of guests heading down to use it, and they looked serious, so my guess is that it's pretty good. BTW, there were numerous straight couples staying at the hotel when we were there. Although it is primarily a gay hotel, they make it clear that it is "hetero friendly," so non-gay couples should definitely consider the Axel, as well.

"conveniently located"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Jan 16, 2013
Pros: +near a mall Glories-with a good variety and inexpensive restaurants. +the tram is right in front of the hotel (Helpful from when we went shopping in Diagonal Mar-shopping mall) +Metro stop-Glories was a block to the left of the hotel. The red line takes you to Placa Catalunya-Las Ramblas, Universitat. +Right next to Torre Agbar which was a great landmark for when we would walk at night. +There were bus stations across the street. +You can view the Sagrada Familia from right outside and very good view from the roof. It's a 20 minute walk from the hotel +Behind the building is a beautiful theatre +Toliet had its own sliding door. That was private. +Loved the design, very trendy +with a fee, we had buffet breakfast, it was decent with eggs, meats, cold cuts, breads, cereals, juices, and milk. +Javier was very pleasant and welcoming and gave an orientation of the room. Cons: -glass with a sheer material between the room and the bathroom. Would be romantic for a couple -wifi-although it was free, we had to ask for a 3-day pass for each device to enter in daily. It must be a city thing. -There was construction going on in the mornings so there were some apparent noise but was not a bother to us. Depends how well you sleep. Overall, I would recommend this hotel because of the location and for the good rest we had. The area was safe to walk around.
