I found the hotel and staff to be exceptional. The breakfast offering was quite good, the room (double) was reasonable size and comfortable, internet access was free and the location was great. The hotel is actually right on the main street through the red light area but I felt safe enough even walking at night. The street professionals are not aggressive. I would stay there again.

DGI Byens was good bang for your buck. It's no frills but clean, nice and quiet. Close to the Central Train Station and close to the hip meat packing area I felt the location was easy and perfect for a visitor like myself. What made this hotel great in my opinion was the service, all the people there were very nice. They let me check in two hours early, store luggage for me and my friend (who wasn't staying there) for free, didn't charge me when I lost my room key, didn't hold any money on my credit card and gave me a free tshirt when I was leaving because the front desk guy thought I might like it as a souvenir. Overall very friendly and accommodating. It IS a budget hotel but a good one- i'd go back!
