Nassau Hotels

Home of several large, luxurious resorts, Nassau has all the beauty of the Bahamas, but as the capital city of the island it also enjoys excellent facilities such as extensive shopping and ritzy, world-class restaurants, allowing you to enjoy the best of both in your vacation. You can hop from designer stores to white sandy beaches in minutes, and there are a wide range of resorts to please all visitors, from those on a romantic honeymoon to family groups seeking water parks and livelier fun.

Things to see

The Atlantis Aquarium is a great way to get close to some of the most beautiful sea life in the Bahamas; without having to learn to scuba dive. You'll find floor to ceiling tanks full of exotic fish, with soothing lighting and music to create a relaxing experience. You can also enjoy a range of special experiences, such as swimming with dolphins, snorkeling, or hurtling down the thrilling water slides for a cool dip. Cable Beach is close to the city, yet remains an island paradise thanks to its long white sandy beaches and shimmering turquoise waters, ideal for swimming, paddling, or even trying some activities such as surfing in the calm waves. The National Art Gallery of the Bahamas is set in a traditionally styled Bahamian house that has been converted into a bright and contemporary gallery. Inside you'll find exhibits from famous Bahamian artists, as well as young up and coming talent, with everything from sculptures to paintings and ceramics.

Where to stay

As the capital city of the Bahamas, you'll find the center of Nassau to be quite built up compared to surrounding areas, although not the typical sprawling capital that most countries are used to. Close to the harbor where cruise ships come in you'll find the popular Bay Street which is a colorful shopping area with traditional Bahamian style buildings. One of the main reasons for shopping on the island is the availability of duty free goods, and you'll find high-end designer stores selling shoes, clothes, and handbags at lower prices. Walk inland a little further and you'll find colorful street markets with more affordable shopping options, and this is a great place to pick up a souvenir to take back home.
