"Excellent value"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
Great location close to Deutsche Oper Berlin and served by bus less than 100m walk from the front door, less than 30 minutes to the Hauptbahnhof by bus and S-bahn. Excellent breakfast, one of the best I've had at the price. My only complaint is some smoking jerk in the floor below would blow his garbage out his window and of course it would be sucked directly into my windows. Thankfully the air-conditioning was working perfectly.

Very nice. No complaints. Had to pay for breakfast and wifi and parking but that seems to be standard in Europe. Breakfast was exceptionally good, great variety and quality. Room was very nice as was Hotel. Front desk staff was friendly, helpfl and spoke good English. Could walk safetly from Hotel to major attractions. On a street car and subway route. Would stay here again.

"Great stay for the money"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 1, 2012
I had a difficult jet-lagged first night at Hotel Axel in a room where the walls were very thin and my noisy neighbor was up all night. I spoke with the front desk the next morning and they switched my room to a slightly larger, more comfortable, and much quieter room. The smaller rooms here are very small, just enough room for a bed and shower. I recommend spending a little more money for a larger room or taking one of the suites at the corner of the hotel. The spa was clean and nice and although the hot tub was barely lukewarm, you can sit outside and take in Berlin from it. The clientel was very international and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The surrounding neighborhood is similar to the Castro in San Francisco with a central U-Bahn station a block and a half away.
"Value and Quality"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 1, 2012
We were a bit leary about being a short distance from the city center. But, it ended up a good choice. The room rate was more than fair. The room was just fine and service was good. We purchased the multi-day transportation card from the hotel, so it was easy to jump the tram right in front of the hotel and take it to Alexanderplatz where we could transfer free to UBahn or SBahn to get us quickly to all the Berlin sites. The hotel optionally offers a wonderful breakfast buffet at a rather hefty rate, probably a deal for big eaters or those wishing the convenience..
"Fabulous stay"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Apr 28, 2012
What a wonderful experience! I know when you rate something this high people think it's fishy, but I have nothing negative to say. Within walking distance from two Ubahns (one which basically takes you straight to the airport with one easy bus change), so close to Gendarmarket, the shopping of Friedrichstrasse and much more. The staff (especially Aaron) was wonderful and helped us out each day. Their suggestions were perfect. The happy hour at the bar is great. (Ok the only bad is that breakfast is 19 euro, so don't bother and they didn't always remember to refill the coffee packets). Our room was lovely and had a patio. It was so quiet we slept for hours. We absolutely loved our hotel experience.
"Not bad for the price"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Apr 27, 2012
I needed a single room for one night. Price was right, though room was small. What made is worse is that the twin bed is built into the wall with only one open side. And the mattress was awful. There is a big wardrobe which made no sense. For a tiny room like that, you'd never need that much space. Take out the wardrobe and put the bed on casters, please. Bathroom was efficient, though.

"Excellent place for the price"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Apr 25, 2012
Couldn't be more convenient, and the staff was always friendly, helpful and attentive. The room and hotel were clean, they have free internet access in the lobby along w/ free teas that my wife drank daily. Only reason it wasn't a perfect 5 on everything was because the pillows in our room were bigger than most couch cushions I have so they were very uncomfortable to sleep on. I never asked if they had any different pillows so who knows, maybe smaller ones do exist. The subway stop is literally right outside the door so it couldn't be closer to getting you to where you need to go and there is a convenience store across the street in case you need any water, juice or even alcohol. Great place and next to a very young, fun neighborhood w/ nice bars and retaurants.
