"Changed our plans to stay longer"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 6, 2013
The hotel owner, Mario gave us so many great ideas we changed our plans and stayed 4 nights instead of 1. He taught us about the country, set up tours, and even helped us find a church in a neighboring city. He speaks perfect English, has lived in the US for years. The grounds are amazing with beautiful landscaping, frogs, and lots of birds. Couldn't have been happier with the service we received!
"CONVENIENCE"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 4, 2013
I was pleasantly surprised to find everything as I hoped. The cleanliness and locationwere perfect. The staff was very kind and tried to be helpful. The only thing that might have been more useful would have been better English spoken by the staff.
"Good but not amazing"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Jan 31, 2013
The hotel is very close to downtown. The rooms are comfortable but the safety box it doesn´t work and the jacuzzi on the fist floor is a little bit cold.
"Helpful staff and great stay!"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Jan 29, 2013
This was my first stay at a hostel type resort and it was great! The staff was knowledgeable about the area and was able to recommend great restaurants and even discounts available. The tent room was much larger than I had thought and even had lighting and electricity. It was a great deal!

"We would definitely go back."Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Jan 16, 2013
The grounds were beautiful! The view of the volcano from this hotel is outstanding. The first night we heard something running around in the room and were concerned that it could be a mouse. We even found droppings that we thought looked like mouse droppings but not exactly. It turned out that there was a gecko in the room and the droppings were from the gecko. This was the first place we stayed during our trip to Costa Rica so we weren't familiar with geckos before this. It turns out that if you stay in a hotel in Costa Rica, chances are you will be sharing your room with geckos. They were in every hotel we stayed in but we really enjoyed them and didn't mind having them in our rooms! After all, they eat a lot of bugs including mosquitoes! I felt the breakfast was great considering it was included. They had great fruit, eggs, ham, toast and then some Costa Rican foods - beans with rice and fried bananas! The only thing I wish they would improve on is the lighting. The light in our room was very dim, so at night we couldn't see well enough to read. Other than that, we loved this hotel and would stay here again if we are lucky enough to go back to La Fortuna some day. It is a few minutes out of town, but we actually prefer that. You can easily drive into town to eat but then get away from the noise and people at Lavas Tacotal. It is a little rustic, but clean. The staff were all very helpful and friendly.
"Beautiful grounds, great volcano view"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Jan 14, 2013
Overall we were very pleased with this stay. The grounds were beautiful, the individual cabins made it seems even more special, and we woke up to the sounds of tropical birds every morning. Hot springs on site were really enjoyable. Only complaint is that some members of staff were a bit 'snooty' and the restaurant is way overpriced for the food for lunch and dinner. But the breakfast buffet was fantastic! The quoted cab fare into La Fortuna including the 'convenience fee' for the resort to set it up (which was not optional) was high compared to what we encountered in other towns. But would definitely stay again!

A cute boutique hotel. It has a lot if charm. The staff was attentive and helpful. Centered in town it was easy to get to sites & restaurants. A very reasonable price and a nice stay. The lava lounge is across the street, a very yummy restaurant. Plus great views of the volcano from third floor.
