"Two nights in Beijing"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Dec 21, 2012
We were very satisfied with ecerything, the receptionist did not speak english very good, but she tries everything possible to understand us and help us (online translater and so on). The only thing is, it is not so good to find, but the location was good, 5-10 walk minutes away was a very huge shopping mall with good western food!

"Hutong life is interesting once you find it!"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Oct 11, 2012
I enjoyed this hotel, but my room smelled pretty dusky. As people wrote on trip advisor, it is difficult for taxi drivers to find and impossible for anyone to find on their own, but once you find it, the atmosphere is very, very interesting! While I never felt unsafe, this type of environment can look very scary when arriving after dark and I am glad I didn't let me taxi driver let me out on Drum Tower Street like he tried to! I'd have never found it, or dared to walk past the Super8 in the dark! I'm glad I found it, though! It was a multinational-type hostel.
"WHERE???"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Aug 20, 2012
you will never be able to find this place by yourself. i found someone who spoke english and they kept asking other people and we eventually found it. very nice family. ive been to Beijing 12 times now and this was the hardest hotel to find. but great location for transportation. if u r going to the airport the bus drops you off and picks you up within a 5 minute walk of the hotel. i will stay there next time for sure now that i know where its at.

"Great location and historic feeling"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 19, 2012
Depending on the booked room, very basic to quite comfortable. Fantastic garden, just in the middle of downtown Beijing, just a short walk away from forbidden city and the shopping street
"Great location!"Reviewed by James P of "Salt Lake City, UT" on Apr 1, 2012
Pros: Location is 2-3 min walk from beijing railway station subway/metro and train station. 10-15 min walk from airport shuttle bus dropoff/pickup (at beijing international--ticket house on the west side). 2 metro stops to Silk Street, Sanlitun, Pearl Market, Heaven's Temple, Forbidden city. So great location. Several small supermarkets around and noodle shops, mcd's, kfc, whatever. Hot water in shower and good pressure. Safe neighborhood. No condoms or other stuff in the room, no girls knocking on the door at night asking if we need a massage. Curtains to fully darken room. Cons: towels clean but look like they have been used for at least 5-10 years. Carpet clean, but really old, too. Staff speak some limited English but hardly any. Beds are typical chinese hardboard. No water bottles in room. No snackbar. Not sure if fridge works, but there was one. First little street you come to is Youtong, so turn right. 1.5 blocks and harmony hotel on your left. 2-3 min without luggage. We will definitely stay again if we don't have money for a nice hotel. Perfect as a base for touring on a budget. I do a lot of staying in China in budget hotels and this was just what I expected. An inexpensive sleep spot next to all the good sights. We use the hotel to sleep in, but that is about it. Subway is literally around the corner. To get there from train station, go straight out from train station across the large street that runs parallel with the station. Once on the other side of the street (next to northwest subway entrance) head left/west.
"Well kept, well connected, spacious"Reviewed by Adrian T of "Manchester" on Nov 10, 2011
In contrast to the low end reviews, I found this Hotel without problem, found the staff helpful and the location ideal. Given the huge neon sign hanging across the Pin Yin labelled street saying "Bei Hai Inn" it's hard to understand complaints about this place being hard to find. I guess printing the Chinese script in the HDC confirmation email will help with directions if you don't even have pidgeon Mandarin. I was actually upgraded from a single to a 4 person room a not extra cost due to a slightly late arrival (and HDC not forwarding on my reply stating this). Complainants taking issue with the hotel cleanliness are clearly not used to travelling in China. The place does look a little tired, but so does most Chinese hotels by Western standards - but the place is clean. Wifi works in the bar and foyer, but is patchy in the rooms; the ethernet cable I found wasn't live, but TV works and en suite is clean and warm. Adequate heaters and clean linen for Beijing in winter. Location is very convenient, Decent bike hire for 20 RMB per day and I found the staff fine. It does help to try to speak a little Chinese rather than loud English when travelling off piste in china.
"Beijing Far East Hotel, in a hutong"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Oct 10, 2011
Great location, two stars at best though. Backpacker or very experienced traveler would be more comfortable here. I would recommend the Far East - Beijing to those who are not spending lots of time in the unit.
