The negatives: The bed was too soft and pillows did not provide enough support. Also, the room was too hot. We had to turn on the AC (on a winter day). The positives: excellent location (about a 10 minute walk to the People's Square subway station), superb customer service, good food, very modern room. In summary, we would come back!

This hotel was a great value. The location is great as it is close to the bund so you can go hang out by the river. It is also close to Nanjing shopping street and lots of other stuff is within walking distance. There is a small 24 hour convenience store across the street which is convenient because unfortunately there are not a lot of restaurants nearby. However, it is still a great hotel to stay in bc the other ones we stayed in that were the same price were dumps. The concierge, Peter, spoke English and was incredibly friendly. He made our stay more memorable. The showers were nice, with very hot water. In room fridge and electric kettle which comes in handy for late night noodle bowls and tea. Complimentary water bottles. They also have power converters you can borrow if you ask. Overall I loved this hotel and wish we would have stayed there the whole trip.

With the fact that traffic is not really good in Shanghai, it'd be wise if you choose a hotel located right on Nanjing road.

We had a seventeen hour layover in Shanghai and decided to stay near The Bund. I resisted the temptation to book a room at the stunning Ritz Carlton as well as the new Hyatt, and went with the very affordable Ssaw based on the incredibly reasonable price and it's distance from The Bund. The reviews were good so we went for it. Fortunately for us, the woman at the information desk at the airport wrote out the address in Chinese to give to the cab driver; otherwise, I don't think he would have found it. So we get to the hotel and it's lovely inside, the staff was friendly and told us that the mini bar was free. Hooray! We go up to our floor and it's very zen; rock garden, candles; a lovely hand sculpture over every door. When we get into our room, we find a large suite with hardwood floors, a living room, large, bright bathroom, and an exotic, very comfortable, canopy bed. We were pretty delighted, and I hope to go back and spend days rather than hours someday. Being on a lower floor meant no view; it might be a good idea to request a higher floor.
