"Needs Updating"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Mar 19, 2012
This hotel is a great location, close to everything, especially the restaurants on Elgin Street. Unfortunately, it is in need of some major upgrades to it's decor and structure. The furniture is tired and uncomfortable. The balconies are in disrepair. The free WiFi and size of the one-bedroom suite helped make up for its weaknesses. The cafe is closed on weekends, but there is a good Italian restaurant across the street that serves a great breakfast.

"tiny, convenient to downtown, but not great"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 3, 2011
close to downtown ottawa - drove there anyway because parking was free, but it was close. Parking is almost non-existant. If you can get it, street parking is free after a certain time (5, i think?) Otherwise, they have to take your keys to park your car in a little puzzle-like "lot". My room was 3rd floor, walk up. They offered to carry my bag though. It was easy to hear the people in the next room, but wasn't a deal breaker for me. The room was tiny - no room to set up a luggage table if you wanted to walk comfortably around the bed. For one person for one night, it wasn't a big deal, but for more than one person, probably not the best. The bathroom was also tiny. Not super well kept up, but clean, and the shower was hot with good pressure. Breakfast was meager. Cold offerings, slow toaster for bread, coffee wasn't great. It was free, but not very good.
"Travelodge Ottawa East - Not Bad, not bad"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Aug 16, 2010
It's about what you'd expect - the staff was very nice, the room was simple and unexciting, the location is convenient, the neighborhood is basically strip-mall and commercial. The restaurant/bar next door had decent food. While we did not use it, they had just finished renovating the indoor pool, and it looked very inviting. The standard cable TV service had plenty of channels, but who rents a room to watch TV?? Only two very minor issues - the room smelled suspiciously like it was formerly a smoking room. Either that, or the previous occupant had a serious foot odor problem. Either way, we opened the window and that was enough to clear the air. The other oddity was what appeared to be a wireless router hanging by its cable in the hallway. Since it was unlike any of the other wall mounted routers, we think they were probably just in the process of updating the equipment, and this was the last one to go. Did'nt affect our stay, just thought it was odd. Simply put - for a basic place lay your head at a very reasonable rate, we would recommend this hotel.
