Orange County Hotels

There's plenty to see and do in Orange County, whether you're a fan of cartoons or not. As well as being home to Disneyland, Orange County or 'The OC' if you prefer is an affluent and beach-rich resort, boasting some of the most popular and iconic beaches in California, including Laguna Beach, and some of its most glamorous malls and shopping meccas. Whether you're practicing your surfing, dressing to impress and hitting the bars, or maxing your credit card, this is an upmarket, upwardly mobile region.

Things to see

One of the major reasons why this area is such a draw is undoubtedly Disneyland which offers the full range of animated antics, hi-octane white knuckle rides and spectacular firework-packed displays and parades. There are rides to suit all ages (and temperaments) from the full-on gravity defying to the gentle incline, and of course all your favorite Disney characters to meet and greet. Disneyland Park isn't just about the rides, though, with a whole town's worth of restaurants, shops, and even hotels built in to its eight distinctly themed regions to make this a one-stop entertainment hub. For a different sort of entertainment, Huntington Beach Pier is the center of surf culture in the area, and juts out into the sea which creates ideal boarding conditions all year round thanks to the swells around Catalina Island. If your need for speed isn't sated by Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm is another thrill-packed amusement park.

Hotels in Orange County

This being a bustling hub of beaches and beautiful people, you won't struggle to find options when it comes to accommodation, whatever your budget. If you want to splash out, there are plenty of hotels in Orange County where you can find as much luxury as you're willing to pay for. Some glamorous resorts will offer stunning beachside views and throw in a huge range of amenities including multiple outdoor pools, service spas, saunas, and health clubs. Some top-end hotels even have their own golf courses. Most hotels will offer complimentary WiFi, flat-screen televisions, and tea and coffee making facilities as standard.

Where to stay

One of the most popular places to stay is in Disneyland – Anaheim, and while it can be a pricey option it puts you in the heart of the rides and cartoon capers. Be aware that if you are staying at hotels on-site you can have purchases sent to your hotel to save you carrying them around all day and taking up room on the rides. Another exciting place to put down roots is Buena Park - Knott's Berry Farm which is right next to one of the region's other huge amusement parks and has a similarly contained resort vibe. For a more upmarket, adult experience, Newport Beach is a swanky harbor resort where money talks.

How to get to Orange County

The best bet for international visitors is to fly into John Wayne Airport, which is around 8 miles away from Newport Beach. Transferring from the airport is straightforward thanks to the huge number of options, from hotel-organised shuttles – especially if you're heading towards Disneyland – to trains and buses, as well as the perennial airport taxi ranks. Once in the area, two great ways of exploring are via Newport Pier and Balboa Pier, where the wider area is just a hired boat ride away.
