With perfectly clear, warm waters and powdery white beaches, the Maldives are a perfect destination for the ultimate romantic break, and with many luxury resorts spread across the area, there's plenty of choice amongst the different atolls. From large, family friendly resorts with all-inclusive services, to small and isolated islands, there are so many options available to make your holiday memorable. Whether you're snoozing on the sands or exploring the coral reefs for rare fish; a vacation in the Maldives is a once in a lifetime experience.

Things to see

Laguna Beach on Velassaru in the south atoll offers long, private beaches and luxury resorts for the most discerning of tourists. Along the white powdery sands you'll find hammocks blowing in the breeze, swaying palm trees, and waiters serving colorful cocktails. Gili Lankanfushi Beach is one of the quieter resorts on the island, with wooden villas standing over the water, allowing you to go straight from your room into the clear, warm ocean for a dip. You may even find friendly stingrays and exotic fish coming to join you. In the unlikely event that you get bored of the beach, then visit the National Museum in Malé to learn more about the history of the Maldives. From traditional tribal tools and instruments, to artwork created by locals, it's a unique and fascinating look at Maldivian life. Malé is also host to the golden domed Maldives Islamic Centre which is one of the biggest mosques in South Asia, and inside you can take a tour of the intricately decorated rooms full of treasures.

Surrounding Malé you'll find the Northern Atolls which are full of popular tourist resorts and large hotels. This is where you can enjoy a family friendly trip, with private beaches that are postcard perfect, yet have plenty of activities such as scuba diving, snorkeling, and boating. Honeymooners and those who want a quieter vacation will often head for the Southern Atolls which tend to have smaller resorts with unspoiled beaches, lush greenery, and plenty of isolated, private spots where you can relax.
