"Pleasantly surprised"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 26, 2013
I usually stay at budget hotels but decided on this trip to India to stay a little nicer. There is no hotel closer to the international airport than this, but you don't ever hear a plane. Since it is about the same cost as a decent hotel in a major city of the US, I set my expectations there. The hotel is very nice! The large open atrium through the whole building is beautiful. The water fountains, skylights and piano player added a nice ambiance. The rooms are just as nice as the photos with every comfort. Internet is a little expensive, but this is not the US where Internet is often free. Beds are OK, but good for India. I'm used to a 5" memory foam pad on my bed. These were much harder and a little lumpy. Felt like a mattress pad on top of hard mattress, but the pad was a little worn. Still, I slept well. The buffet for breakfast was great. Far, far above anything free in the US. This is a full meal with great variety and quality. More like a small-scale buffet at a casino in Vegas (much smaller, but you get the idea).

After 24+ hours of travel time on my way to Kolkata, this was a welcome rest.

"Excellent Service, Rooms Need Updating"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Jan 9, 2013
It's a convenient 20-30 minutes from the airport. The service was quite good -- many staff members seem genuinely friendly and happy to help, well versed in interacting with international travelers -- and the breakfast was good in the Club Lounge. However, many things in our room did not work: you can't change the freezing temperatures, only turn the AC unit on and off. The iHome system, bathroom scale, and fancy schmancy cappuccino machine were broken. Floor boards and bed were a bit frayed. Rooms are very small. Excellent housekeeping. Our rooms were very clean. Hotel provided a crib on request, which we deeply appreciated. Thanks for a good stay, overall.
"Sahara Star - Nicest hotel near the airport"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Oct 12, 2012
This hotel has been in a state of repair for quite some time....but if you can overlook the exterior fascade and the dirty hallway carpet, the rooms are beyond oppulent. Further the comfort of being picked up and dropped off at the airport is suberb. I would definitly stay at this hotel to beat the Bombay traffic and be closee to the airport. Note: on Thursday, Friday and Saturday - ask for a room away from the night club
"great hotel but not that quiet"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Sep 16, 2012
overall great but it is located in a busy street, I stayed at the hotel next door (ITC) and they had noise dampening windows and thus felt less noisy.
"A pleasant surprise"Reviewed by Kevin P of "Orlando, FL" on Feb 14, 2012
I was originally booked at the Oberoi but last minute had to change to the Intercontinental (unwillingly). I was totally shocked and surprised after reading some of the negative reviews. This place was a fantastic hotel. I have rarely seen service carried out at this level. I wasn't in the best room category at the hotel but had a butler even. I was escorted to my room where i was checked in privately. All functions of the room were shown. It is high tech. The 2nd day the hostess greeted me by last name in the restaurant. I have people who've known me for years who can't pronounce my name. Phones were answered immediately and always answered with a greeting using my name. My only complaint would be that the Internet connectivity was problematic at times though both nights I had issues, 2 techs arrived and resovled the problem in minutes. My complaint is the cost. It was nearly $30 a day. That's outrageous for any hotel!! But it was a necessity due to work. I would have no problems returning to that hotel for work or for pleasure. The location is absolutely spectacular!!
