"Jasmine Hotel - Great value, Location, and Service"Reviewed by Brianne N of "Laguna Beach, CA" on Oct 31, 2011
The Jasmine Hotel was fantastic! The room was nice and clean, although the beds were a little hard. Breakfast is included and pretty good. The location is unbeatable, two blocks from Hoan Kiem Lake and on the south side of the Old Quarter. There's also free wifi. But no doubt the BEST part about the hotel is the people -- the service is fantastic and the staff is so nice and helpful!! They will book tours and events for you and can recommend what to do while in Hanoi. And their English is pretty impressive. Overall, great experience at the Jasmine!!!! Will definitely stay there again!
"Hanoi Plaza Hotel"Reviewed by Philip P of "Seoul, Korea" on Feb 27, 2011
I actually stayed at two hotels in Hanoi, the Splendid Star and this one. Both were conveniently located right in the Old Quarter not too far from Lake Hoan Kiem. This hotel was a bit quieter and I slept better. The Splendid Star is right near St. Joseph's Cathedral. In addition to the motorbike noise, which you can't escape, church bells and roosters crowing woke me up very early every morning. Also Tony I believe, the man at the front desk was friendlier than the man at the Splendid Star. He helped me a lot, providing a map, telling me what was in the area, giving advice and so forth. Also I got a pickup and a dropoff at the airport. Both went smoothly. Tony actually got me going the morning I left. I indulged a bit too much the night before. I would have missed my flight if it wasn't for him. As for the pickup, supposedly there are a lot of taxi drivers who scam tourists in Hanoi. They try and say that your hotel is booked up and then take you to their friend's hotel. They are shills. Beware! I would stay at the Hanoi Plaza again. Overall it was a really good experience. I have only two criticisms. One, the breakfast was terrible. I'm not the only one who thought this. A gaggle of middle aged Danes were in the dining room when I arrived. They turned their noses up and grimaced at the buffet breakfast. The breakfast at the Splendid Star was awesome, freshly made to order. My second criticism is that they didn't have change when it came time to pay for the car service. Hotels are supposed to be able to get you change, aren't they? I did get it but it was a bit of a struggle. This is a problem countrywide. Getting change in Vietnam isn't always easy. Also they were afraid that a slight tear in the bill I gave them would make the money null and void. Simple naivete. But I understand that they don't see big bills that often. It was a $100 bill U.S. So that's ok. The bed was comfortable. The shower could have used a bit more pressure but was ok. The staff was fr
