"If in Rotorua"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 8, 2013
This Holiday Inn is one of the nicest places in town. The town can smell like sulphur as you are located on a geothermal sulphur springs area. The major problem with hotels in New Zealand is that they charge for everything! Local calls, wifi, breakfast, parking, etc.. My wife and I were on our Honeymoon from the US there and we enjoyed it. Rotorua had lots of fun stuff to do and this hotel was close to many of them.

Old hotel but renovated well. Clean, good service, friendly and helpful staff and handy position to city center. Mostly appreciated 3 full sized beds in our room as we were expecting 1 roll-away bed for 3 of us Excellent value for the money!
"Great bargain in a good location!!"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 6, 2012
The Lodge is low priced, so keep that in mind when you stay there. With that in mind, we stayed for two nights initially, went to Wellington and then came back and stayed another two nights. We were very satisfied with the location, but we also had a rental car so we could drive the short distance into town. If you don't have a car, this might not be the best place for you. We had heard complaints about the traffic (lodge is right next to a BP gas station) but its no more than anywhere else. The internet was free and really fast, we were able to easily upload our daily pictures. Finally, the owners were extremely helpful and friendly. We would stay there again and again.
"Confusion with the Name"Reviewed by valleyteacher of "Los Angeles" on Jan 2, 2012
The hotel is nice, centrally located, and across the street from a supermarket. Many of the locals get confused as it used to be the Ventura Inn. In fact when we booked it, it was called the Ventura Inn, and when we stayed it was called the Quality Inn on Fenton. Be sure to take your proof of a free breakfast on your reservation. Evidently there is some confusion in the change over. They do not keep records. Overall it is a nice hotel and would recommend it. Just be aware of the recent change over in name and affiliation. I guess is is pretty common in Rotorua. The names change all the time in these seasonal hotels.
"Silver Oaks Resort - perfectly acceptable"Reviewed by Len S of "UK" on Feb 18, 2011
Some reviews were very negative but we received a great rate and having booked a studio were pleasantly surprised to be given a 1 bed apartment. This was reasonably equipped and clean. Furnishings were a little worn, but no worse than many other motels. Swimming pool tended to get rather hot - like a very hot bath at times!
