"Good, affordable place to overnight"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 9, 2013
The room, a single Queen bed, was relatively small but acceptable. The bathroom is a good size, but mind the step in and out of the shower. I didn't try the breakfast because it seems overpriced. There are restaurant options galore within a short drive of the hotel. The internet is free up to 20MB per day, otherwise there are several options available for pay. My only warning about the internet is if you end up paying for an internet access package through the third-party provider GConnect to ACTUALLY WRITE DOWN the voucher number needed to log on to the internet after your purchase. The email confirmation you receive after purchasing doesn't contain the voucher number, and if you are inactive after a certain period of time the system boots you off, causing you to have to re-enter your voucher number to re-access the internet. I had to call GConnect to retrieve my voucher number after having neglected to write it down (not a big deal, but it was 15 minutes I could've spent doing something else). Otherwise, a good stay!
"Overnight stays prior to long airline flights."Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 8, 2013
This was a nice hotel on the outskirts of JHB. It was quiet, clean and very comfortable with good food. It would have been nice to know that the anticipated cab fare from the airport was around $70 each way but the quiet was worth it.
"Surprisingly good food, convenient location"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Jan 28, 2013
Great breakfast buffet with good variety, all areas of hotel very clean and room nicely arranged. Sign up for the hotel card and get free internet. Quick shuttle to the Gautrain and shopping mall or just a quick walk to the grocery store next door. The gym door was jammed shut one morning so everyone got an extra workout to open it but was fixed immediately afterwards. The gym is located next to the ironing board room if you prefer your exercise that way.
"Happy at Sunnyside"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Nov 4, 2012
It was a great place to stay in Johannesburg, and after seeing the other areas, it would still be my preference. The breakfast which was included in the room rate was absolutely delicious. I really looked forward to the opportunity to eat a healthy breakfast and get a taste of the local cuisine.

"Nice area"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Apr 18, 2012
This hotel was clean and nice. However, the design and decoration were supposed to be modern/chic. I found them to be garrish, at best. It was clean, staff were friendly; however, the lobby/bar area were strangley decorated, as were the halls, walls, and rooms. Wi-fi was not free and was somewhat slow.
"Extra Mile"Reviewed by Dave M of "Texas, USA" on Jan 31, 2012
I am surprised that Internet is not standard with the room. For a 5 star Hotel to ask its patrons to PAY EXTRA for internet is a bit embarrassing. My wife and I enjoyed everything about the stay EXCEPT the fact that we had to PAY EXTRA for internet.
"Best little hotel in JHB"Reviewed by K. L. of "Lisbon" on Jul 26, 2011
The best little hotel in JHB. Great location with direct access to Rosebank Mall. Nothing comes close at even twice the rate. Will return.
"Deal Seekers Paradise"Reviewed by Walter J of "Los Angeles" on May 20, 2011
This hotel is the BEST DEAL in Johannesburg! The price compared to all other hotels is simply unbeatable. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and technologically advanced. Most people would be surprised that your staying in the City Center of JoBurg. But you actually have made the best choice possible. Sandton and Rosebank are extremely nice locations, and should be VISITED, but are overpriced for a city where all of the tourist activities are at least an hour away. So in order to save money on lodging and have an action pack experience at Lion Park, the Elephant Sanctuary, Moyo's Restaurant, Soweto Tours, or one of the many animal Safaris, stay with the Reef Hotel. You will be able to book a car with Henri and Patrick, (who are the nicest gentlemen in the world) and see all that JoBurg has to offer. Even the area turns out to be a good thing once you've experienced all that JoBurg has to offer. You find that two blocks away is a WoolWorths supermarket, Ghandi Square (which isn't a tourist attraction but rather an authentic downtown market area), and a short drive away SophiaTown in an area called NewTown. The Market Theatre is also conveniently located to the Reef Hotel. So all in all by far the BEST DEAL in JoBurg, this coming from a manager of Hollywood actors and singers, who has been around extreme luxury, but who can also appreciate an AMAZING DEAL. I actually wish I had 3 million dollars liquid to open my own hotel in downtown JoBurg its a GOLD MINE waiting to be discovered. Hopefully this helps, any businessman, family, or tourist looking to visit Johannesburg. Good DAY good people.
"Safe, convenient location"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Mar 28, 2011
The hotel is located in Melrose Arch, which is a newly constructed shopping area, with many stores and restaurants within easy walking distance. Sitting out one of the cafes one may see many high end cars going by. There is a universal plug in the room and free wifi, though we had to request a second validation slip to get the wifi to work. Room was comfortable and the pool/bar area is a nice place to relax. This is a nice stopping off point for people new to the city.
