Morro Bay Hotels

A seaside village haven wrapped in charm, time stands still and peacefulness prospers on California’s central coast. A fishing town by trade, Morro Bay provides a picturesque escape of rejuvenation and recreation. Hike along scenic trails to the sound of birdsong, sail on gentle blue waters, fish a local catch, or comb the beach in search of treasures. Or like many before you, breathe in the sea air and take it easy with a good book. Morro Bay is so quintessential, it’s straight out of a book itself.

Things to see

From green hiking trails to bird watching hotspots, Morro Bay State Park offers acre upon acre of scenic outdoor pleasures. Home to saltwater marshland, a golf course and the Museum of Natural History, the park’s main landmark is Morro Rock – a 58-foot high offshore volcanic plug. Thirty miles away, Pismo State Beach is home to yet more unspoiled coastal paradise. Stretching for 17 miles, the tree-lined dunes, natural greenery and golden sand set the scene for plenty of beachy fun. Here you can shoot some volleyball, try your luck at surf fishing, dig for the Pismo clam, or take a sunset stroll along the Pismo Pier. You’ll also find Monarch Butterfly Grove here. One of the largest of its kind in America, the eucalyptus trees provide the winter refuge for thousands of fluttering orange monarchs. In the nearby city of San Luis Obispo you’ll discover Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa. Founded in 1772, the historic Spanish church is laden with charm.

For both however, international visitors will need to connect via a larger airport, such as LAX. If you’re landing at the latter, it’s a simple 18-mile journey into the village. First you’ll need to take a taxi to San Luis Obispo’s Government Center bus stop, before hopping on the Route 12 service. The ride takes just under 20 minutes and terminates at Morro Bay Park.
