Things to see

Ruidoso Downs Racetrack hosts many thrilling horse races, both live on the sandy track, and via simulcast from huge venues across the country. There's also a casino with row after row of illuminated slots, blackjack, and video poker games vying for your attention, and a choice of restaurants where you can celebrate your wins or watch the racing on the big screens. If you want to see what life was like for early settlers of the town, then head to the Hubbard Museum of the American West where you'll see perfectly preserved tools and equipment that the pioneers used to survive. There are also Native American artifacts on display, and regular exhibitions showing work by local artists and photographers. The Lincoln State Monument also helps you to live in the past, with over 40 buildings that have been restored to look as they did in the 1870s when outlaws such as Billy the Kid roamed the area, and the Lincoln County War divided the citizens and led to gun battles on the streets.
