Treasure Island Hotels

The uniquely shaped Treasure Island looks a little like a palm tree on the map, with branches sprouting off the center point into the calm waters of the bay. The island acquired its name through deceptive means, when eager property owners buried fake treasure chests around the area in 1915, attempting to bolster their home values. However, when people arrived on the island they enjoyed the long sandy beaches and calm waters, and it was turned into the longed-for vacation resort it has become today.

Things to see

John's Pass and Village Boardwalk has long stretches of boardwalk surrounded by wooden huts occupied by ice cream stores, surf shops, t-shirt stalls, and other popular tourist facilities. There are also several laid back restaurants serving freshly caught seafood grilled to perfection, as well as bars overlooking the sea with tables and umbrellas outside so you can enjoy the views. Treasure Bay Golf and Tennis has a challenging 9-hole golf course which goes across waterways and overlooks the bay, as well as both lawn and hard tennis courts where you can enjoy a relaxing game in the Florida sunshine. Dolphin Marine Rentals are located on the Boca Ciega Bay, and here you can hire a wide range of boats, from pedalos to pontoon boats that can be taken out for dolphin spotting, picnics, or simply to enjoy the sunshine. There are also jet skis for the more adventurous traveler, allowing you to zip along the water and see the scenery from a whole new perspective.
