With its name meaning “The Jewel” in Spanish, given the spectacular coastline, year-round sunshine and vast number of oceanfront hotels, La Jolla is a sparkling example of the perfect beach holiday destination. Located to the north of San Diego, the area is blessed with a warm climate, peaking from July to September when temperatures average around 75°F and rainfall is minimal. The winter months generally remain warm and sunny, but can occasionally be afflicted by storms.

When to visit La Jolla

With its agreeable annual climate, the area is a popular destination throughout the year. However, reservations for some of La Jolla’s luxury hotels can sometimes be hard to find during the peak periods of late summer and early fall. Why not look for resort hotels in January or February instead, when the Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla hosts the PGA Tour?

How to get to La Jolla

The nearest commercial airport is San Diego International Airport (SAN), located about 8 miles south of the city, from where taxis and bus transfers are available to transport you to La Jolla hotels. La Jolla itself is served by both buses, and the San Diego Trolley, enabling easy navigation of the region. Downtown San Diego is home to the Santa Fe Depot, which is the main hub of Amtrak train services, and is within short transit from La Jolla.

Why visit La Jolla

Whilst the beautiful Pacific coastline and hotels on the beach are undoubtedly the main tourist draws for La Jolla, aided by San Diego’s Mission Beach, being nearby, the area is also rich in culture, and famous for its shopping. It is definitely worth checking out the Museum of Contemporary Art, whilst Grand Avenue and Prospect Street are home to a fabulous array of specialist boutique shops.

I absolutely loved this hotel. Friendly service, comfortable room, great location. I could hear the seals barking as I woke up in the morning. I highly recommend this hotel.

Nice quaint hotel. If you are looking for a place with spacious rooms and lots of glitz, this place is not for you. If you are looking for a comfortable, extra clean, well-maintained, older hotel, located in central La Jolla, then this is the place for you. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay there.
