Mammoth Lakes Hotels

Deep within national forest territory and situated amongst breathtaking mountain scenery; Mammoth Lakes is surrounded by natural beauty, and most visitors arrive in the winter months when there's a thick layer of powdery snow that makes for perfect ski conditions. However, it's also a great destination during the warmer months when you can explore forest trails by foot or by bike, and can take the ski lifts high up the mountains for the perfect hike down.

Things to see

The Mammoth Lakes Welcome Center is a great place for new visitors to start their vacation, and in this cozy wooden lodge you'll find exhibitions about the history of the area, maps and brochures, details about activities on offer, and even hiking equipment for those planning to take in the sights. Although many skiers in the area want to rush down the powdery mountain slopes, at the Tamarack Cross Country Ski Center you can enjoy a more serene experience with tree lined trails for Nordic skiing. There are over 19 miles of smooth white trails to explore, allowing you to enjoy the isolation of the surrounding mountains. The Sierra Star Golf Course has the distinction of being the highest course in California, and as you wander around the beautifully kept greens you can enjoy the sight of surrounding snow-capped mountains, trickling streams, and lush pine and fir trees to shade you from the sun.

Some of the area is pedestrianized, and here you'll find plenty of small shops, cozy cafés, and restaurants with fireplaces and warm wooden tones. Most of the town lies in the surrounding mountains, with long winding roads and tall pine trees where you'll find ski resorts and inns in amongst breathtaking scenery. How to get to Mammoth Lakes

Mammoth Yosemite Airport is just 10 minutes away from the ski resorts by car, taxi, or shuttle service, and this small airport has year-round flights to Los Angeles, as well as seasonal services to San Diego, San Francisco, and Orange County. There are quite a few larger airports nearby, and Reno–Tahoe International Airport is in one of the most convenient locations less than a 3 hour drive away. Here you'll find flights arriving from major hubs across the USA, and there's a direct bus from the airport to Mammoth Lakes run by the Eastern Sierra Transit Authority which takes just over 3 and a half hours, although the timings will depend on the season.
