The room was clean; the staff was friendly and the temperature was nice and cold. They have the typical amenities, pool, internet and breakfast (which was quite good). The price was fair for the time of year in Rio. Location is a bit far from airport and center of town. Area was safe and close to the beach.
"Surprising. Nice. Quaint. Great front desk!!!!!"

The room was a bit smaller than I imagined, as we had our 5 year old in a bed next to our king -size bed, but we were only there for the night. The front desk was excellent! We had the chicken sandwiches from room service....and they were delicious.
"Mar Brasil - slice of heaven at Itapoa Beach"

This little jewel across the street from Itapoa Beach in Salvador is a little slice of heaven. If you need good proximity to the airport, it is ideal; it is not downtown near the historic center. But it's a convenient 15-minute cab ride to the airport and sits next to the prettiest beach in Salvador. The service was fabulous and the setting beautiful. I'm not a fan of resorts or character-less giant hotels, so this 2-story, classy spot was perfect for me - loaded with character. One of Brazil's most prominent artists (Vinicius de Moraes) owned the house that makes up part of the premises: charming and loaded with culture. The staff could not have been more accomodating. It helps if you speak Portuguese, of course (I'm fluent). But one of the best things about Brazil is its incredibly warm people. So if you plan to go without learning some language, you should change your mind! I will happily return.

The Pestana lodge residence is particularly nice. Our room was large, and we enjoyed the balcony and great views. The infinity pool area was excellent, as was the included buffet breakfast. The property is attached to Pestana Hotel which has it's own pool area as well. No complaints.

We spent a great week at the Pestana. Our room, like all others had an ocean view. The bed and bath were superb. The bar had music every night. The pool had great service and a wonderful section by the ocean. We could walk to a restaurant section of town for dinner and as long as we got a metered cab ,transportation to the central city of Salvador was affordable. The fitness center was complete and well maintained.Room service was always available and prompt. The staff spoke English were was most helpful. The breakfast was amazing! We would go back in a heartbeat.
"Golden Tulip - a faded charm"

Whilst the building could do with a bit of an external rennovation and decoration it still provides everything you could need at a reasonable price.
The location is ok for getting into the centre and to the Barra region its also safe enough walking around with a couple of decent restaurants in close walking distance.
The breakfast buffet was good along with the lobby bar for snacks.
