Things to see

The historic and leafy main campus of the University of Kansas is set in the heart of Lawrence, and with charming red roofed buildings, large areas of green space, and excellent facilities, it has that old-fashioned college campus atmosphere. By contrast, the popular Allen Fieldhouse building is rather utilitarian, but it attracts thousands of people who want to cheer the college's basketball team to victory, and perhaps spot the next NBA superstar before they become famous. The University of Kansas Natural History Museum holds plenty of fascinating specimens and teaching collections inside its thick stone walls, and there are attractions for kids and seasoned academics alike. If you want to enjoy some of the culture the city has to offer, then the modern glass-fronted Lawrence Arts Center is worth a visit. The center has a busy calender of exhibitions by local and international artists, as well as several performance spaces which allows a mixture of challenging and fun shows to be put on.
