Mountain View Hotels

Situated in the Bay Area, somewhere between San Jose and San Francisco, Mountain View is named for its sweeping views of the lush green Santa Cruz Mountains, where you can hike or bike and spot wild deer or bobcats relaxing in their natural environment. The city is in Silicon Valley which means it's full of cutting edge technology firms, and since the 1950s it has attracted some of the biggest names in IT and electronics, with sleek, glass-fronted buildings situated on busy industrial estates.

Things to see

The Googleplex is the corporate headquarters of search engine giant Google, and here you'll find dozens of different buildings that make up the complex. Although you can only tour the interior if you have a contact on the inside, you can wander around the buildings and enjoy the quirky seasonal displays, see the Android lawn statues, and enjoy the serene environment. If you're somewhat of a computer geek yourself then a visit to the Computer History Museum is essential to learn about the history of Silicon Valley and IT in general. Even if you're not terribly competent with computers, there are dozens of fascinating, interactive displays where you can learn more, and plenty of educational programs for kids who can learn where IT might take them in the future. On a balmy evening, there's nowhere more relaxing than the Shoreline Amphitheatre. This outdoor stage has over 6,000 seats and holds many world-class music events. There are also grassy areas for bigger events, and you can bring your own folding chair or blanket and listen to the music while enjoying a picnic.
