"Don't Be Afraid of the Neighborhood, Great Price"

My boyfriend and I stayed one Friday night here. Parking is $30 a night. The hotel is older, so don't expect the best, but overall it is very nice. There is a mini-theater in the lobby. Each room has an Art Deco-style placard on the door bearing the name of an old movie. Inside, a few framed photos of the movie are displayed. Our original electronic key didn't work and neither did our replacement key, so it took us about 20 minutes to be let into our room, but this was a minor hiccup. The man at the front desk was very friendly. He kindly snapped a few photos of us and even drew us a map to the closest market. This hotel is in the Tenderloin district, which is one of the highest crime areas, but it is not nearly as bad as some people will claim. If you are travelling with children or are not accustomed to city life, this is probably not the hotel for you. If you are a young adult that wants to explore the city's dive bars and ethnic cuisine by foot, this is a great option because the hotel is cheap, clean, and centrally-located. There is at least one hostel across the street, so the area is rife with young travelers. The lobby doors lock at nightfall, which is a good thing because the homeless population can get a little rowdy, but the doors open with your room key and there is someone at the front desk 24 hours. My boyfriend and I were out drunkenly wandering all night, and we never at all felt unsafe. Bonus! There is free, fresh coffee in the lobby 24 hours a day!
